I'm an ex Alberta boy, have lived in the Okanagan now for more than 30 years now. I've never said to myself, "sure miss the prairies". I used a Hibatchi there a few times at -40 C/F to get the oil thawed. Have you ever driven a car with square tires or had to crank the steering wheel back after turning a corner? How about sitting on a cold rock of a seat. Don't miss it a bit! Now lets talk about the mosquito's...

Balmy 6.5 C here this am Spitz...and NOT raining...we had winter last month.  Warm enough to work in my son's unheated garage, though I do like my natural gas furnace in the garage at home.

Work done since Jan 2nd - 1098 out of ROO and disassembled, block & crank in hot tank at machine shop, engine bay empty, shell ready to move to another heated garage for removal of sub frame & steering rack, prep & paint of the engine bay.

Picking up 7 of my tires, lightweight flywheel & backing plate, miscellaneous bits...maybe 5 more tires for another & 2 windscreens in Victoria on Tuesday.

Got to take advantage of our mild coastal climate.  Offset, we do get a lot of rain at lower elevations, a lot of snow on the mountains.

Do not envy you one iota!

It was +12 C here this morning when I got up. Rain and wind all day is taking much of the snow away. Back to winter tonight. Good news is my daily driver got washed off. Turns out it is silver, not dull grey-brown.

It just won't warm up !

I can only imagine how stiff the rubber doughnuts would be in the MINI.  I've driven them at -15 or so....and that is a rough ride.

Looking forward to spring driving !

I feel your pain..... first time ever, had to boost the wifes MINI today. Not quite as cold as SK, but almost + it's windy, which makes it all that much worse.

For my first Mini, which had to be driven in winter, I had an electric dipstick heater - a plug-in heated rod that could be put down the dipstick hole, right into the oil. What I hate is when it is so cold that the stiffness of the tires, bearings etc. makes the car stop while you are trying to shift from 1st gear to 2nd.

yes, I thought it was a bit of a wanky post with few details.

BTW, you could blanket the engine and leave a light bulb lit under the sump overnite.  You'd be surprised how much heat a light bulb generates.

And at those low temps, who would drive a mini with a chance of breaking down only to walk to safety.

Cold in NY. Not like Canada of course.  Been in low teens all week.
