Old Minis are always like a box of chocolates - never know what you're gonna get. But this is a Whitman's Sampler with a missing lid. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing if one wants to build a custom Mini because it has some of the coolest parts - Inno dash, 1275, etc. Plus it has Cali registration which is a plus.

thinking about this car and revisiting the pix. Seems like someone took an inno and used that car to reshell their S. There's just too many inno bits on the car. Maybe a Mk 2 inno with the size of the holes in the rear panel for the lamps. Or maybe a MK 1 with the rear lamps hacked out for the later style lamps. Plenty of rust on this one which appears to be more of a bitsa.

I think it is a real 66 S body, but all the Inno parts detract from what's there. Would take some bucks to make it right again, but at the current bid I think it's a good deal. Chuck, the fan on backwards won't matter since it doesn't have a radiator it's gonna overheat anyway. Also, the bumper sticker says it was in Seattle in 91...how come you don't know this car? The biggest puzzle I see is the BMHIT Heritage Certificate for an Austin and the VIN is for a Morris? Fake Certificate? Strange?

Lots of comments on this on BaT. I originally thought it was an Innocenti with a 66 S vin plate but the more i look at the shell with the added pictures now posted it does look like a true S shell with Inno parts on it. Now whether it is truly the vin numbered car it is is really unknown as the body number is missing but the almond green seems to match the Heritage certificate.
The way for the buyer to go with this i think is to make it into an S (or as much as an S as you care t and sell off the Inno bits as in the long run it may be easier to source the S parts than the missing Innocenti parts and the value will be higher.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

Just as puzzling is the fact that the BMIHT screwed up on the Heritage Certificate by indicating the car as being an Austin while the "K" designation in the VIN is indicative of it being a Morris.

Looks like it's based on a '70s Inno. And because no one else has taken the time to mention it, I'll say the fan is on backwards!

maybe an inno with a vin swap. Too much inno stuff and the vin is on backwards I think.

Innocenti did not build Cooper S because of the taxation. In 1972 , They built a non- Cooper S with 1275 engine. By the Heritage certificate, this mini was built in England and sent to Italy.

- AFAIK, the Cooper S models weren't produced by Innocenti that early, right?
Nothing jumps out at me as not being a UK-built Mk1 Cooper S shell (it even appears to have some of the original almond green appearing under the rear subframe?), but without it's original engine and many other Cooper-specific parts, it will be far from top dollar. Does anybody with sharp eyes have any thoughts on the rear window? Hard to tell without a measurement if it's the early small size or not.
If anything, the seller should have removed all the Innocenti bits and other items that aren't Mk1 S because all they do is plant a seed of doubt in buyers.
Interested to see if anybody spots some details that I'm not seeing, but it appears to be a legit shell with correct MK1 S VIN tag and some other correct parts.

Spotted this Mini listed on BAT as a Mk1 Cooper S. At first glance it looks to be a re-vinned Mk1 Inno however there are some details that do point to a UK built Mini. There are many different opinions on BAT regarding the true origin of the Mini offered at auction.
Which factory do the historians of MM think this Mini rolled off of back in the day?

At the end of the day this Mini has potential but it is clear the seller is hoping for a Cooper S payout.
