Randy often comments on minis on Bring a Trailer. I have asked friends for his contact info, which I will email to you.

I'd be looking for the bits that the car was built with. If you want to take this off line, my em is in my profile.

I have a 997... block, crank, bits...buried somewhere back there. I don't think I have a 12G202 head but definitely have at least one 12G206. Putting it together is very low on my to-do list. When you say "and trans", are you looking for the 22G68?

I could put an S lump in it, and have a half dozen on the floor, and for the crazy prices, that's likely the way I'll go.

Other than the 295 cyl head I don't hold much value in 1100 s. I'm currently working on a 998 Cooper and its 295 cyl head will get guides with the seal groove, hardened exhaust seats, and 8 new valves all late triple groove keeper and O/S valve heads. Also converting to unleaded I use new double springs, caps and keepers to match. I clearly would not trade my 997 complete power unit with NOS bits to rebuild for a 1100. While the thread started WTB his first reply was I have for trade. I also try and trade parts I have.
I would like to know the value of a complete 997 power unit as is and rebuilt. I have a good idea of cost to rebuild to a very high standard. Just wondering about core value. Steve (CTR)

I have been collecting parts to rebuild a 997 Cooper power unit for some time. I suspect a correct numbers matching 997 complete and rebuilt would bring a good amount. Can't imagine wanting to trade for a 1100. Steve (CTR)

Mur,
you've got me thinking I should strip down my gold seal and see if it had the 997 cam swapped into in.

If you think about it, a 997 is an 850 with the same crankshaft stroke as a 1275 assembled with horrible parts, such as the worst connecting rods, Pistons, timing gears and sometimes even the early wet tail crankshafts.
I am not suggesting you de-stroke a 1098 crank, buy awesome 850 pistons and put them on fancy connecting rods and throw it all into a late 850block and fit the block with a correctly embossed engine number plate, but if you did do that you would have a very cool mini. The long stroke and the iconic 997 cam result in an unmistakeable drivetrain. It can be re created with modern mini reliability. A 997 from another car would not be more valuable.
