For the 2009 Cooper S, I make the following recommendations to all my customers:

As long as you stay with a brand name FULL SYNTHETIC oil with the recommended 5W-30 viscosity, you should be fine.

We recommend more frequent oil changes than the interval recommended by the factory - change your oil every 5,000 miles or less (or once a year if you drive less than 5k miles per year).  We recommend this in order to keep the bearings in the turbo free of build-up from dirty oil.  This helps to maximize the life of your turbo!

According to the Castrol web site, the Magnatec 5w-30 is indeed full synthetic:

"Castrol GTX MAGNATEC is available in the following grades: 0W-20 (Full Synthetic), 5W-20 (Full Synthetic), 5W-30 (Full Synthetic), 10W-30 (Synthetic Blend)"

The Magnatec appears to be a different formulation from the Edge.

Castrol Edge:

Castrol EDGE is three times stronger against viscosity breakdown than the leading synthetic and leading conventional oils.** The unique titanium technology physically changes the way oil behaves under extreme pressures doubling its film strength*, preventing oil from breaking down and reducing friction to maximize engine performance.

Castrol Magnatec:

When the engine stops, oil drains back to the sump, but the intelligent molecules in Castrol GTX MAGNATEC don’t. They cling to critical engine parts like a magnet, providing an extra layer of protection from the start and throughout warm-up. ONLY CASTROL GTX MAGNATEC IS UNIQUELY FORMULATED TO PROVIDE INSTANT PROTECTION FROM THE MOMENT OF START.

Since they are both listed as 'full synthetic' - you should be okay using either.

I don't know if that is Spanish, Portugese or ?, but the poster seems to be asking what the difference is between "Castrol 5w30 Magnatec"and another brand "Edge". Reference car - 2009 Mini Cooper R56. (I can't help - I don't speak that either.)

Maybe Richard will drop by...
