Slightly off topic but....
If you ever need work done on wire wheels, the folks at Hendrix (who sent the response to Rhoda above) are great people.

Hi-

Let me preface by stating that I was a junior in high school in 1981.

But I happen to have a lot of the early records of Triad Austin-Healey Club here, for another project.  I will take a look, and let you know if anything were to turn up, thanks.

Regards,

Cliff

Thanks everyones help so far  .

Having heard this "French connection" somehow fits with me telling you to contact Gary Dillow. I put his name out there as one of the older original members of Mini Owners South who would have known the car if Michael Bokros owned it in 1981. Knowing now that the car originally was exported from France tends to make me believe Gary might have imported the car to the US. Gary was in the USAF stationed in France and returned to the US and started working in the aircraft industry in Atlanta. He met and married his first wife "Francine" while he was stationed there and brought her back with him to Georgia. He had a red/maroon Cooper S back when I met him in 1982 but later had a Mini Van. Could this be the Cooper S Rhoda is tracing? Anyway, that's all I know about it. Good luck in the search.

Hello Dr Mini  really appreciate all your help . Sad to hear about Michael but I will try to find his son  via Google as you suggest ..
In parallel I'm trying to find out who exported the car from France sometime before 1981 . I have the French dealers name plaque . So now just got to find the links between 1965 to 1981 !!!

I am a member of the Triad AH club that used to run the Tanglewood show.

Cliff Hudgins may be able to find or point you in the direction of info on registrations.

Rhoda, I don't know that car, but Michael Bokros was the president of Mini Owners South back during that time. MOS is now defunct, so it would be hard to trace through the club. Michael is also no longer with us but he still has a son in the Atlanta area. Not sure his name, but Google "Bokros" and surely you can find him. Failing that, the oldest most active guy in the club at that time who's still alive is Gary Dillow who lived south of Atlanta. Good luck!

dr mini.. I second that. remember the old chateau elan days for the atlanta british car show.. I think I saw Euro day in Greer  SC was $75 for PRE registration and $100 the day of the show. STUPIC money.. Rhona.. NC DMV is North Carolina Division of motor vehicles.

I remember the British Car Days South that the AH Club put on in Charlotte. Good show! My Cooper S took First Place there in 1982 or 1983...can't remember which year and the trophy is in storage. Shame all the good low cost high attendance car shows are no more. Between the increasing values of the cars and the cost of just participating in shows, Mini Meets, etc, we are turning our hobby into an older crowd and not developing a very user friendly hobby for the up and coming youth. Perhaps that's why most of them are stuck in a video game addiction instead of being gearheads! Shame really! I know my granddaughters will inherit my Minis and Moke. Perhaps they will continue the madness we call Minis!

Hi   as suggested i sent a mail to the Austin Healey club  and currently its waiting for the web site moderator  to screen the message before  passing it on to their forum.
I should  have sent the form request to 'thewerewolf' as he offred to send me a 'MVR 605'. Apparently  this form this needs to go with $10 to NC DMV  (who are they ??) .

But this is all 'double dutch' to me so can you help explain it . I thought i could get a copy of a previous US car title to see a previous owners name and try to contact them - maybe with this form MVR 605 ??

I'm also  writing to the occupier  at 1391 Carter Road  Decatur GA 30030 as this is the last known address for Michael Bokros who bought the Cooper S on 11-27-81 .

Just trying to trace who had the car before him and I found the car show plaque 'Tanglewood - British Car Days - South -May 16-17 1981.

I will try to up load some pics  when i can figure where i need to position my photos (on my pc at the moment)

 Regards Rhoda

Bill, you are correct.  There are no shows at Tanglewood anymore.  The last car show I remember in Wake Forest was held by the MG Car Club back about 12 to 15 years ago.  It was held at a shopping center called "The Factory".  The MG club only used that location once.  It was not a good venue.

Before moving to Shelton Vineyards the Triumph club met for a few years at Reynolda House in Winston.  In fact, I think that's the only time you and I met face to face.

I thought the Tanglewood events were hosted by the Austin-Healey crowd.  Try contacting The Carolinas Austin-Healey Club.  Someone there may have access to the archives.

Bill, are you thinking of The Gathering which is hosted by The Triumph Club of the Carolinas?  They host their annual show at Shelton Vineyards near Dobson.

Can anyone tell me how to contact show/event people  who were involved with cars at the British Car Days South May 16-17 1981 . I'm tracing the history of a 1965 Mk1 Morris Cooper S that appeared at the event ( I think) - see car in garage pic . Thanks in advance
