i had been looking for a mini for a while nation wide
Untill last week that is! so i am semi familiar with the current market

9500 seems a bit high to me for a basic no frills auto

i would wait based on the car i bought last week and what a good deal i found
you will probably have to increase your search area

OK, this is the 5th or 6th time I've tried to reply to this thread.

My 87 Austin Mini City-E has some difference from that car.
Dash, steering wheel, pop out rear windows....

I believe the 'City' was a lower grade of Mini as compared to 'Mayfair'. E.G the car in the picture has fixed (non-venting) rear side windows.
The instrument package and dash panel may be after-market too (looks nice though). I would expect to see the later 2-clock or 3-clock instrument pod in front of the steering wheel.

Cool you guys have been helpful! I'll probably still go check it out to see how the body is. I wasnt thinking it was quite worth the 9500 he was asking but he does say or best offer. I would be confidant in swapping out anything on it (ASE Mastertech here, just do auto on the side though... ) I missed a good opportunity for a '63 morris MINI back in January because my 3 series broke down the week i was going to go look at it. So I bought an F56 cooper s hardtop for the time being (now just recently sold) while I replaced the 3's motor.

The City E was a base economy model with sparse trim and black accents instead of chrome. The City manuals had a 2.9 FD (ithink) which helped with cruising speed and fuel mileage. The auto's had horrible ratio's something along the lines of the 850cc Mini's 3.7 or so i believe and as such were very high revving at highway speeds.
If you can buy it the value of the shell and find a good running manual engine and box it would be a decent buy or just drive the auto till it blows.

RUN.. from the  AUTOMATIC mini..  this is only worth $5-6k in my book..  I would NEVER take in auto on trade.   It could be converted to manuel. but what a lot of work..  l btw . lots of miles on automatic.. most are less than  30k.. and like said above.. the oil MUST have been changed every 3000 miles to preform property..later bc

That is the 3 speed auto with no park feature. It is fine if you want to ride around town but cruising speed and keeping your sanity is limited. Auto Mini's if not maintained are junk as the oil and filter needs to be changed every 2000 miles and most people (especially in the UK where oil prices are high) do not do this and the transmissions go kaput usually with very low miles. Same thing happened with the Austin Americas in the 70's most were junked due to a bad transmission. Rebuild kits are available from the the UK but finding someone to do it is another story, most get switched over to a manual engine and gearbox.
Unless you absolutely need an auto look for a manual Mini.

It's really not possible to answer until it's inspected in person, or VERY detailed pictures are seen since it's unknown how good the body is.

Automatics - slow performance, solid if oil has been changed very regularly, unfixable if something goes wrong, but engine swap not too hard. Still fun to drive - unless a unique original car, manuals certainly more valuable.
Good luck!
