That S is gorgeous....but $93,000....a bit over priced
Cheers, Ian
That definitely makes a lot of sense, Ian!
I suppose a bidding war is what most people hope for when they put a car on the auction block, but it's rare from what I can tell. Bidding sagging around $60K AUD ($45K USD) is about what I'd expect on that car in a normal scenario.

I'm not giving you grief. I'm simply calling you out for misreporting information (without backing-up your claim).
I don't have a horse in the race, either way. But it's sad to see genuine prospective buyers get trampled online by supposed "experts" who resort to name-calling and other put-downs. That's not a great way to welcome people into the hobby.
If this is how you treat all prospective customers, perhaps you should quit dealing with the public.
Good! I can echo that every person I've met regarding Minis (and many that I haven't met) have been great. and quite helpful. It would be a shame to think that one person with a chip on their shoulder considers their decades of experience an entitlement to push people around.
Best of luck with your search. Be well-educated on the details (and buy a copy of the Parnell book if you don't already have one) and wait for the right car to come along. And like I said earlier, MiniMania's classifieds is a place place to find a decent car at a reasonable price. I've seen some nice Mk1 S examples on here in the past year or two under $45K

"Everybody should own a MINI at some point, or you are incomplete as a human being" - James May
"WET COOPER", Partsguy1 (Terry Snell of Penticton BC ) - Could you send the money for the unpaid parts and court fees.
Ordered so by a Judge

I'm not in the market (already have one). While I'm not counting receipts, when finished with the restoration, I still don't think it'll total more than $50K.
Mostly I'm impressed that somebody paid $70K for an Aussie Cooper, but again, it would take more results like that to convince me that the market is really that high across the board.
No doubt that you're run across tirekickers in the past, but you can't assume every person online looking to pay fair, current market value (vs. a world record price) is a time-waster.

Here's what I found in the past month:
1.) RINGO STARR's Radford Mk1 S. (expected to bring 120K GBP). This price would be 100% because of Ringo's provenance and 0% because it's a mini: https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/cars/867545/the-beatles-ringo-starr-mini-classic-car-auction
2.) An Aussie Cooper S....that sold for $92K AUSTRALIAN dollars ($70K usd). https://www.mossgreen.com.au/m/lot-details/index/catalog/354/lot/130379/1969-MORRIS-MINI-COOPER-S
Neither one of these represent a standard Cooper S without any special history bringing $100K USD. They don't, that remains an unsubstantiated claim.
Just because somebody doesn't buy-in to your fallacy doesn't make them a tyrekicker. It makes them an educated buyer, and it makes you sound STUPIC.

Let's just get all hypothetical and say - even if one sold for $93K, what's the catch? Competition history? Previous owner? Special production model? It takes more than one sale to prove a trend in pricing.
Besides, link or it didn't happen.
What I do see is a lot of recent sale prices substantially less than $100k.....as in half that amount. And the last thing I'm going to do is give credit to to pricing advice from a supposed dealer/exporter who has a vested interest in pushing prices higher and higher.
