I wouldn't sweat the RHD thing. In fact, I'll bet it'll becomes one of your favorite things about the car. When I was searching for my Mini I only considered RHD cars. The Mini is a charming and odd little car to begin with. RHD just makes it more so. It took me less then a week to adapt, although I still tend to hug the middle road divider a bit. Oh, and I occasionally forget and approach the left hand door when I go to jump in. If anyone's watching—and it seems like there always is, rather than look foolish I pretend to adjust the mirror—like that's what I was going to do anyway. Then, I walk to the right hand side and get in, pride intact.

A genuine thank you bluebox.

I travelled a lot through the states ( approximately 15 states ) and had good times. Blue Ridge Parkway

and Skyline drive were awesome trips in my TR7. But I’ve got lots of Canada to see still, so not being

allowed into the States is not a problem for me. Frankly, I prefer to stay in Canada these days. No malice,

but I’ve heard too many sad stories about crossing the border into the States recently that it doesn’t

appeal at this time.

RHD is my choice.

Best regards to all, and thank you to everyone who shared thier opinions.

Darren.

Hi all. Well it looks like I’ll be buying a RHD mini ! I think I’ve finally found the right car for me. It’s a British market car, and I’m wondering if someone would please , please, please help me decode my VIN. I have done it and I think all is proper, but I have started a new thread asking for help. I am up against the clock today because I hope to be in Hamilton Ontario tommorow, and I’ve got a lot of things to take care of and arrange in a short time. To get right to the point, I hope someone will answer my call and do a decode for me. It will reassure me that things should go well when I go visit my insurer later today. Thanks in advance, Derwood.

Don/Bluebox:

You are generally correct in your statement but l have a letter from the NHTA in Washington DC that tells US Customs/Homeland Security that if the vehicle is proven to be 25 years and older, then it can't be kept from entering the USA

They were not happy to see this letter , actually pissed that l had it but they allowed me to process the mini (RHD) thru Customs

Really, no RHD visitors? I've had them take exception to having a Canadian plate on the front of a Michigan car after several crossings, but that seems a bit much.

One more thing about LHD vs RHD , when you go to sell your car you will take away half of your market.Plus if you want to drive your RHD car into the USA you will not be greeted with open arms. Sitting in a back room with two boarder guards for half an hour being racked over the coals,is not something you want to do.The US government does not want any RHD cars to be brought into the states. It does not matter that you are only visiting.

Carriage driver:  "Lupins, what do you mean, 'Lupins'?"

Highwayman:  "Don't play games with me, I happen to know this is the Lupin Express!"
