So you have bought a rust free needs nothing 1970 mini for $5000. Would you like to share some pictures and further info about your find? Seems you had no need of our advice, like QS before you it's clear you are so much smarter than the rest of us. What was it my dad used to say? Son, advice is worth what it cost you and I'm giving you this for free. This place is like a buffet, you take what you like and pass on the rest. I have been coming around for at least 18 years and it seems everybody gets a little jab from BC. You could ignore him and go on or you can fight back and see what that gets you. It seems to me you like to hear your key board clicking. Can we get on with enjoying the board. You have made it clear if anyone blows your shirt up you will show us all your a$$.

1. what did you end up with std. 850 sedan, 998 Cooper or a S?
2. what color is you new car?
3. what brakes does it have?
4. what size wheels and tires, 10s, 12s / 145 or 165?
5. LHD or RHD?
6. clean title and matching vin?
7. fixed or reclining front seats?
8. single or three clock pod?
9. sliding or roll ups?

This board should be about cars, and your pointing out BCs short comings has nothing to do with cars and we all know Bill. Now we know you are a brave soul not afraid of a key board fight. I learned 20 years ago not to reply directly to Bill and this sort of thing can be avoided. More free advice I guess. Steve (CTR)

As in most human interactions, it's not the message—it's the messenger. There are several ugly threads on this forum. Most have a common denominator.

As long as we are just talking about cars, my son Alex age 17 is now driving to school. I had sort of planned on his driving a classic mini but that has not worked out. He is a tuba player and his horn won't fit the mini and at $8500. I can't see it on a roof rack. A good friends daughter is expecting and sold us her 8 year old Honda Civic coupe. As much as I hate to say it I love the little Honda. Dealer maintained well under 100,000 miles, new battery, wipers and tires and still less than cost of rebuilding a classic engine and tranny. I'm currently looking at Civic SI models with the extra HP, 6 speed, bigger brakes and posi. Seems there are plenty with around 100,000 miles and well under $10,000, in fact a few with a little over 100,000 miles in the $5000. to $7000 range.

I bought my first mini a 59/60 850 for $300. and spent all my spare time and all my money rebuilding it in 1968. I traded it and another $300. for a rolling Cooper S minus power unit in 71. Started out with a AA power unit and went to correct Cooper S power in 74. Two bare shell resprays and I had it just the way I wanted it in time to buy another 850 and sell the S for a down payment on my first home in 79. It didn't take long before I had another S and the 850 found a new home. That S went though several phases from street to autocross to vintage racer. It was sold for money and another street Cooper S in trade around 2000. I now have 2, 850s, 1, 997 Cooper, 1, 998 Inno Cooper, 1, 1071 Cooper S, 1, UK Moke, and the 85 1000 E with Cooper S power.

You ask how I feel and I feel fine. Not surprised that people show up here wanting to rewrite the numbers. Steve (CTR)
