My first mini, a van, in 1990 had a 1071S engine with 7.5 disc brakes, twin carbs etc

Never really appreciated it,

It now sits in an outfitter store as a display item in Holland MI

Paul Nelson has been watching over it as a mother hen would a chick

But now l have a true 997 Cooper engine in sheeps clothing in the form of an estate wagon

That 1071 in FL was mine. Sold for $8,500 plus he arranged and paid shipping from my door. That was 8-10 years ago?

Car was Swiss cheese. Although I did have EVERYTHING new included for restoration. I'd love to see what it came out like.

To me, a long shaft(or long stroke as you may call it) 998 is way better than any 1000, 1071,1275 out there, more power yet more economical in gas.. Pat kaye of Shasta mini group has a 998 clubby and it flies, passing a 1275 cooper behind.,i think it was J. Nunes who built his engine.,not sure.

oh, are you missing fingers too like me?, pls next time never, never let anyone sit on the driver's seat while you're working under the hood.....just a brotherly advice!

Tiny bore, long stroke, twin carbs, special cam, again (tiny) disc brakes, extended shift the first true Cooper. The coin toss went to the 998 Cooper and the S series. I think they are under valued and are rare enough to have interest. A matching number project should help. This was to be a project for a collector. NOS parts have been bought and some work done as well as finding some missing parts. Parts located in three locations on the east coast. Putting all in one pile would take some effort and interest other than just talking about it. A health issue is reason for the project not going forward. If you are concerned about my fingers I can have the owner tell you what it will take and what he will do to make it happen. Steve (CTR)

Oh my favorite troll Specialist you really should just go away.

It was rather costly on my end and it wasn't storage either.

Good luck on your hunt Mike.

I know of someone with 997 bits that may be interested in your 997 project. Can you PM me with some details? Located West Coast Canada.

This barn-find 1071 S at a Bonham's auction in the UK went for $47.5k USD. (I'm not sure when that auction was?)

//www.bonhams.com/auctions/22685/lot/405/#/.VYWFN1GMv80.facebook

I got a call from a guy who bought a 1071 S new in Chicago, but rolled it with fewer than 1k miles on the clock. Before he junked the rest, he pulled the complete front subframe/power unit/suspension/brakes and has it stashed in his warehouse. More than 50 years later, he still has it and wants to know what it's worth.

After he rolled that Mini, he then bought a new '64 1275 S. Still has that one too, trying to talk him into parting with it since he hasn't driven  it for years.

It's been awhile since I've been offered a 1071 S... it seems that not many are changing hands these days.

I was recently offered a Mk1 with a 1071 in it, but it turns out that it's not an S shell. Sorry...

Totally different syntax, totally different style, and also helpful.

Mine went to Ireland about 2 years ago for $10K plus shipping.

The one that replaces it (that's in worse shape) I wouldn't part with for less than triple that.
