Today --- Changed to LED lights on my 700 lights fog and spot.  Put 0n a new battery isolator switch and removed my Springall steering wheel for my new Les Leston which should be in tomorrow as the post office couldn't take off the pallet today

Replaced my 4th throw out bearing in 18K miles. The last 3 were the "heavy duty type." I never ride the clutch, my foot goes on the dead-peddle between shifts, and I put it in neutral if I'm idling longer than 5 seconds. What the heck?!

Added a later harness with alternator plug and rebuilt the alternator.  Success now 13.6 volts at the battery at idle; battery was at low state of charge.

After 25 years, my Red Rally Mini needed some TLC.

The shell is still perfect, the paint great from 10' away, and the Swifty 1460cc still roaring strongly.

Big Al suggested changing the chrome locking strips in the front and rear glass. That ended up tearing the old rubber seals. So new seal and chrome, new skill at installing glass (no breakage) and now good as new.

New classic style LED headlights, LED bulbs in the 700 Series Lucas Flood & Spots giving a very white white light. Changed out the old 3rd brake lamp for a new LED version and replaced various other bulbs with LEDs as well.

Adjusted the Cooper S window chrome trim to sit properly on rivets. Replaced leather straps on boot and bonnet. Replacement heater and speedo cables to be installed.

New chrome trim for rally flairs and lower body line on order from here.....nothing yet on delivery.

Need to tighten up the gearshift supports, bottom shifter cover to work better with 5th gear and get the wooden knob back on.

And then on with the Moke hood install.

I always thought old cars were expensive......then I got an ex-wife Yell

My mini is crying out for some love. I'm cutting out the rust holes and welding steel patches in the right front wing.

I just opened Pandora's box. Just started down the outer sill line. Yuck, rust, rust and more rust. How does water get into the cross brace? Once it's there it rusts out the floor pan.

You guys keep sending us on Vancouver Island, your torrential rain and 60 mph wind storms after you are finished with them. Pleas don't feel obligated to continue doing so.... Every time I get the cover off and get set for a drive....BAM!  Just finished with one overnight.   :)

With a break in the Oregon rain, I went for a 100 mile drive with some Miata friends and one 3 series BMW.  Very foggy this morning but by noon it was trying to burn off.  Nice to get out of the house and shift some gears.

Removed my van project from it's rotis.  Installed subframes and suspension, got it back on wheels...installed three doors.  Readying for probable repatriation to UK

I plugged in the trickle charger the other day - it took about 3 seconds to show full charge. The Mini has been tucked in for the winter since November.

Waxed up the Moke so it was super slippery then took it out to 100 mph on the freeway. That's as fast as I want to go with the top on.

Rain everyday for the last two weeks here in Oregon.  I just go out in the garage and talk to my old cars and the Mini just smiles back at me.  Rebuilt the Webers on the Porsche and did a mod to the old Hemi/Vette for more clearance above the rear dif but the Mini doesn't need anything but a sunny day.

set more mousetraps in my unheated garage. Try not to run over them on my once every 2 week drive.

Over the years I have had mouse nests and babies in engine compartment and in glovebox. Multiple times.
Someone told me this week that in addition to the traps to add peppermint oil on a rag or cotton ball and place it in the car.
Googling that gets you to ads for pest control services.

Put the mini to rest for the winter, Full tank of gas, added Stabil, warmed it up, changed the oil and filter, gave it a short run, upped the tire pressure to 40 psi, pulled the battery and put it on a maintainer, dusted it off and put the cover on it. After solving the fuel pressure issue in the spring, the mini ran solid all season. It proved a great escape on every drive in an otherwise very strange year.
