Fun to drive and probably quick at a autox but the Porsche would blow the Mini's doors off. A different driver but that's what I wanted.
please dont start The War just kiddin! never driven a Porsche but I'd love to, just for the experience

Yes there's a lot in the posted ad that was incorrect. But it's a newer chassic, 13" rims, good interior and the compression check was very good. Where my Porsche has a 9:1 power to weight the Mini is probably 12-15:1. Fun to drive and probably quick at a autox but the Porsche would blow the Mini's doors off. A different driver but that's what I wanted.

Seller that posted the ad seems clueless. Or else he would've not declared the year but buyer seems happy with the car now and already got the scoop from Jemal so everything is ok. Stuff like this happens and will happen again. Moving on...

Not a 1962. Not a Cooper S. Not a 7-port AKM head. Not twin 1.5 SUs. Since one can't see the internals of the engine, I wouldn't trust anything in that ad.
Well, at least it looks like Tahiti Blue and LHD.

hey Kolsen, I hope you get plenty of warm sunshine where ever it is you are heading in the motorhome. Do you still have the original posting that you saw your mini on? Myself, and probably others here, would sure like to read the original listing and see the description.
cheers,
Bill

The intake port mis-match is not unusual, but in a Mini not too critical. Because the intake length is so short there is little room for mixing air and fuel, so some turbulence actually helps. From what I have read, it is not a good idea to polish intake ports, as the air floows too smoothly and doesn't mix. Ported yes. Polished no.
From 1.28 to 1.40 is 0.12 difference, or a 0.060 step. The ports could be mis-aligned more than that!

I got the clutch taken care of today. Ended up replacing the slave cylinder. Next was a new exhaust/intake gasket. More interesting things back there. Intake ports on the head are 1.4" but the ports on the intake manifold are 1.28" and the advertised SU carbs are not 1.5 but 1.25. There's also a messy crankcase/transmission vent hose that goes into the intake, smog control. Well we don't require that here so that will go the way of the Porshe, just vented into a small air filter. I was looking for something to tinker with after my retirement, I got it.

Car clubs are an interesting group. I have belonged to the Corvette (1965 stingray), and Porsche clubs. Some members only drive their cars on sunny days to group gatherings. Others do that plus group drives on secondary roads. I did one with the Porsche club that turned out to be driving as fast as you can on twisty roads in east Portland that where still residential, I never when back with that group. Then there are those that take out that desire to see what your car can do on the autox track or club track days in a much safer enviourment.
I won't be able to meet up with the Mini Club until spring as I'm heading south in my motor home the 1st of Dec. Should be interesting, I'm looking forward to it.

From what I have learned here it sounds like driving a Mini is every bit as rewarding as an air cooled 911.

The early Porsche's, 1965-1975, and the first successful racer the 73RS, had the Fusch wheels. Very strong and the lightest wheel. In the early 70's a lot of the race cars, not just Porsche's, started using British minilites. I grew up a sports cart nut and loved the racing and then the minilite wheels. In the Porsche ranks you just have to run Fusch wheels and I did for a long time. But I like racing so I decided to put my personality into my car. British Minilites prices have gone nuts and luckily I ran into an early Porsche racer in Phoenix using Australian Superlites. Strong enough for racing, same look and 1.5 pounds heavier than Minilites. My Porsche has the ducktali from 73, a 74 rear valance, 80 twin plug 3.0L engine and newer lighter suspension. It also has Cobra rearview mirrors. It's a light weight as well, I've taken 250lbs of weight out of her. Empty she only weights 2200lbs. She represents my personality.
Mini YOU ARE NEXT!

A Mini is a totally different kind of "driving pleasure" (although I've never driven a Porsche.) More of a "can't wipe that silly grin off your face" kind of driving pleasure.
