Hey, Jonathan, Haven't really been on here myself, save a handful of times during the past year or two; the experience was ruined for me also.  It was the ad that drew me in; thought I'd read something new or interesting, but alas, been there done that.  I rarely post on other forums as well and generally don't interact with any mini enthusiasts anymore - haven't the stomach for any crap or people in general anymore.

Haven't even seen my own mini for over a month (hope it's still there), and have only driven it 20 miles or so since I parked it last autumn, though I might put the summer wheels/tires on it and take it for a short spin before it's biennial MOT inspection.

Enjoy the summer -

Those words, Boison, properly cared for and his pink/rust/bare metal wonder Mini Special will never appear legitimately in the same sentence.

i dunno why the project Binky boys are making it look so difficult......???

You really need to understand "unibody" construction. In a Honda/Toyota/GM/Ford/VW... sedan, there is no, I repeat NO, "chasis" or frame from which to cut the car body off. You can try, but you will be left with a floor which will not hold any weight. To get a full fraame you'd have to revert back to a 1950's or early '60's car.  Modern cars alslo have front and rear "crumple zones" which are intended to fold up in a controlled way during a crash. Only the passenger zone is designed to resist being crushed, something like a built-in roll-cage.

Likewise, you can't just cut the floor out of a Mini - if you do, the rest of the body will flop aroundand go all out of shape.

That is why the "project Binky" boys didn't just cut the top off the Corolla (or whatever it was) and slap the Mini on top.

Oh, and next time you are out in your Mini, park beside the model of Honda you think you could use. Get out and stand way back and see how much longer the Honda body is. Then go stand in front and see how much wider the Honda body is.

Go back and watch all of Project Binky from the beginning - they tell you WHY certain things must be done.

Dude I read most of your old stupid posts and you are full of S***. You say you're great with the newbies to help them out and all I see right now are advises that can get somebody hurt or even killed. Please stop right now because this is not a laughing matter anymore. A new guy with a classic mini might take your word for it and get hurt without us all knowing. I used to work for a very high secured department in the military and I hope and pray to God nobody gets hurt or I will personally use every connection and resources to have you put away from this forum and your tools for good.

Now that's good creative thinking Tony.  You'll have lots of room to experiment with different pulley arrangements.  Cable might snap and be dangerous, you'd be amazed what a good rope can do.

There is a tried and true ship steering system where you simply wrap it around the shaft.  This is your kind of cheap, simple fix.   Surprised that your hero Issigonis didn't consider it because it is light and quick-responding.  If you can patent it after your successful build, cut me in for a piece.

Additionally you're right that it is a steering 'gearbox'.  There's a reverse gear you can activate, it was an early anti-theft idea at the time.

cutting the drive shaft and welding it back is not a problem, you just have to make it sure that it is super duper aligned./ regarding the wire harness, i mean they are wires and those can be bent, they can be easily tucked away underneath the front area, as well as the ECU box.

Tony when are you going to start cutting?  Have you decided which parts of the floor you want to take out?

I know several people who paid big dollars for what you're proposing, all of them north of $50K.  I would get started soon though, those kinds of prices won't last forever.

To really attract interest you might show pictures of the cut-off body.  Then place an ad here.  The way prices are going lately you could try it at $30K and see if you get any bites.

They would need a tetanus shot before they handled that sheet metal.

I'm asking, I'd really like to know

Because i need solutions to my mini problems too, like you and others here as well.  and just to remind you, i own a classic mini too. and  instead of egging on me( you know i like this word a lot) , why not just help me, i promise from now on i will follow all your advice and not be hard headed. (advices on how to fix my mini that is). people who loath(hmm new word) on are one way or another narrow minded. imo

"Because i need solutions to my mini problems" No you don't you do not follow any advice given.

"why not just help me" Why would we based on our previous attempts it is futile.

"i promise from now on i will follow your advice and not be hard heaeded" No you won't.

"people who loathe (me) are one way or another narrow minded imo" Quite the opposite they are open minded something you should try and become a better person.
