Thanks for the clue-in! I didn't see it was a ressurrected thread.

Seeing as the post is six years old... probably not.
I'd suggest giving Mini Mail a shout as Tim usually has odd bits floating around.  Closer to home too.

(Hi Larry! Welcome back!)

I installed a modern head unit as Cup Cake shows. Out of sheet metal I made a shallow box section to receive the modern install rails/side brackets. The box is screwed to the underside of the parcel shelf rail. The back of the head unit just touches the inner wheel well, so the box section cannot be full depth of the head unit. I finished the exposed parts of the box section with vinyl fabric matching the upper dash pad and the firewall cards.

Post a picture as well as a height x width measurement. Also, if there is a metal cage inside, try to take a picture of it. Any aftermarket head unit (any that are worth a dang) will come with its own cage. But generally they are universal.

When they were dealer installed most of them were mounted under the passenger dash rail.

Where was this placed in your 1978 mini? I ask because I have a similar bracket that I want to install in my 1975 mini but dont know where it should go. Also how hard was it to wire up?

As an 87 did not come with a full dash from the factory you may either have a 90's factory dash or an aftermarket one or a newer car period.

I'll nab a picture, it's a really weird size hole.

I have a radio bracket that I removed from my 1978 Mini. It is a little dirty and has a crack in the middle, but it is yours if you want it. Email me if you are interested,

Abel

In my (real) 1987 Austin Mini City-E, I strapped the stereo underneath the heater box.

Post a picture of your dash for ideas.

I hvae been eye balling a company called Retrosoundusa.com for cool looking old stereos. They are completely modern, with Ipod hook ups and USB inputs...but they look retro. Tons to choose from.

Without a photo of the dash we can all suggest things till the cows come home, but none of may be right.

A genuine '87, without an aftermarket dashboard fitted, has the radio slung underneath the passenger dashrail in a holder.

Probably depends on whether it's a stock dash, had an OEM radio, etc. If It was me, I would measure the dash opening and give the guys at Crutchfield a call. They've never let me down yet for finding car audio stuff that fits.

I bought an '87 Austin-Rover Mini last weekend, and I'm looking at replacing the (missing, along with the brackets to mount it in the dash) stereo inside, preferably with one as close to the original stereo-cassette it came with. Does anyone know where I can find the mounting bracket and a stereo that will fit it? My searching through car audio shops and ebay hasn't yielded much for the '87 (found a bracket for a '94 on ebay though, will that fit the dash?).
