The flexible stainless steel covering protects a teflon hose as well as greatly reduces the chances of damage from road debris or catastrophic suspension failure. The original rubber lines will have a propensity to swell under pressure while the teflon will not, thus the pedal feels more solid and provide much more of a feeling of control.
