2004 mini cooper engine light on took it to autozone to check it piston two failing change spark plug wires (had new spark plugs already) and found the coil with the three spark plug rusted; replace it too ($16.52 on e-bay) and after driving it for 20 or so miles engine light went off.

The second method worked with mine, however "TEST" appeared instead of the "51A". I pushed the key to second position, then "51A" appeared so I turned the key backwords and it all went OK from now on. My cooper is from 2003, R50, 85 hps

2004 Mini Cooper with CVT. None of these worked for me so now I have another light to ignore. Brake wear light has been on for over a year, but the brake pads are fine. All this to get people into the dealership. BMW apparently cares more about what their Marketing execs think than what their customers think. :( Booooo BMW.

Just reset on my 06' Conv (not S). If you're geting the "test" or "tst" then you haven't turned the key far enough. Pushed in button, Turned key past first, got the 51A and went back to first position, released button, held again and got the blinking "RST", hit the button once more and I was set. Good luck folks!

I own a 04 Mini Cooper S and it works. I live in Illinois and before starting the car the screen was showing me 450 miles to the inspection so i had called today the Mini dealer to find out what this inspection means and how much is gonna cost me. The answer was 600$ and they told me that they are gonna check wipers and all this cheap wok for 600$ because the oil change i had it done 1 month ago for cheaper.
I saw somewhere that on some Coopers when somebody tries to reset it shows test 1 and all this. ON MINE TO, BUT JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTION.
Before u turn the key in ignition press and hold the trip button and after that put in the key and turn it ti position 1. Not even touch the ignition before pressing the trip button and in this way u can buy something nice to your wife for 600$

My 2005 does not operate like any of the above 3 (maybe because I have the Tach & Speedo over the steering wheel and the gauge package in the center) but more of a mixture of them. What I found to work is as follows: 1) Press and hold the trip button, your mileage will display. 2) Insert key and turn to position 1 3) Watch for "RESET" to appear where the mileage was displayed. 4) Continue to hold the button. 5) Watch for "51A" to appear below. 6. Continue to hold the button (5-8 seconds) for "RST" to replace the "51A". 7) Release the button, and 15000 will appear as new service interval. 8) Press & release (once only). 9) Service interval should then be reset to next interval
