The stock front stub-axle on all Sprites and Midgets is a type of cast iron. If you are using your car every day on the street, you probably don't care and in fact are pleased that they were able to produce the part so cheaply! BUT, if you are using your car with wide rims or sticky tires, you had better have the best. The stock front axles have a tendency to crack, so if you decide to take a chance with your stock axles, please have them checked for cracks first. Our STEEL front axles are made from 4130 steel, precision machined and pressed and welded into a rebuilt front upright. They have a very generous radius on the critical edges where breakages occur. The steel will be extremely crack-resistant and provide a very strong bearing surface. In addition to the new steel axle, the hubs have been rebushed, reamed and come complete with new king pins! This C-BTA744 is for the right side only, C-BTA745 is for the left side (both sides pictured)

Axle Stabilizer Mk1 Panhard Rod 1/4 Elliptic Sprite.
The installation of wider than stock tires can often dramatically increase cornering power, but the trade-off is an increased tendency for the rear axle assembly to wander around as it pleases. You can find evidence of this by looking for signs of tire rub on the inner side of the fenders which will appear even when there appears to be plenty of static clearance. We at Mini Mania have designed and tested our own Axle Stabilizer Bar. By forming a triangle between the rear springs and the body, this lateral link eliminates side to side motion of the rear axle assembly, while reducing the tendency of the rear axle to wind up during braking and acceleration. Double Bearing Hub Kit Complete Kit Includes 2 Hubs.
Kit includes 2 hubs. For the ultimate in reliability, converting to a steel hub (stock is cast iron) and adding another wheel bearing is the answer. The double bearing adds better support for wide tires and adds to the support of the axle, greatly decreasing the chance of breaking even a stock axle.
It is universally agreed that a double bearing rear hub is necessary on any racing Spridget. But not all are created equally. Our bearing hubs have been improved in that they feature a narrow circlip to locate the seal. This eliminates the frequent problem of the seal backing out causing an oil leak. Complete kit includes hubs, bearings, seals, circlips and o-rings to replace both rear hubs.
