Too bad you are so far away. I know a good guy in Knoxville that is great on trannys. If you only need to replace the synchros then the cost is very reasonable.

Quick, cheap and good.  All would require your definition.  Bottom line, however, there is a transmission overhaul in your future.  Now, you can just buy a syncro and the gaskets, tear it down and just fix the problem (cheap) - possibly the manual as well, or buy the overhaul kit. http://www.minimania.com/web/SUBTYPE/SearchText/CarSearch/MINI/Search/transmission%20rebuild/Search_Inventory.cfm either full or basic and take care of future problems while you're there.

The MiniMania supplied 1275 A+ lump that came on a pallet with the 1970 NZ 850 Mk3 I bought last year is now installed and runs great, but second gear synchro was weak from the outset ( a predictable and difficult to test out-of-car issue...no slur to MM intended here) and is now pretty non-existent, especially on downshift.

So, the purpose of this post is to elicit suggestions on how to effectively (quick, cheap and good? I know, pick two and call back) repair the 'box so I can stop lugging around turns in San Francisco 'cause I'm too lazy to double-clutch.

 All thoughts cheerfully considered.

Regards,

Marc D
