Big Al, glad to see you're feeling better and didn't lose your sense of humor in the hospital. But I don't think so, still wondering... Steve

No big deal- It's a simple ploy so that BMW/BINI can start using the "INNOCENTI" brand to recapture the Italian market- First-Cooper, then Clubman now Innocenti and maybe the moki later- BIG AL

Next they'll be selling Alfas in MINI showrooms... Oh look! They will be! Call me News-Reader-Suzy today. Fiat doing USA deal with BMW Fiat and BMW have announced a deal today which will see Alfa Romeo models sold through Mini showrooms in the USA. Alfa Romeo is to relaunch in the US in 2010, and Fiat has been seeking a low-cost solution for marketing, distribution and retailing. Intriguingly, the deal may be about more than just showroom space - Fiat and BMW have also signed a memorandum of understanding to research the possibilities of future mechanical co-operation. Clubman & 1275GT - its hip to be square!

Apologies if anyone has already spotted this, but here's part of a news article on Autocar.co.uk from a couple of days ago that might interest MINI enthusiasts: Fiat and BMW Confirm Alliance Fiat and BMW will develop and build new cars, components and engines, the companies have announced. BMW brand development head Friedrich Eichiner said: "We are currently examining with Fiat Group possibilities for the joint use of components and systems in MINI and Alfa Romeo vehicles.” Fiat boss Sergio Marchionne had already indicated to reporters at the Abarth 500 launch that an ‘industrial alliance’ was imminent. In a recently released statement he added: “The proposed cooperation with BMW is a significant cornerstone of our strategy of alliances.” Supplier sources have indicated that the companies will jointly develop a platform to underpin the next Fiat Grande Punto, BMW’s third-generation MINI and the next Alfa Romeo Mito. The move will help both companies cut production costs. Fiat already has technical partnerships and alliances with international car-makers including PSA, Suzuki, Tata and Ford – and previously worked closely with GM. BMW collaborates with Peugeot-Citroen on engine production, but has traditionally spurned technical partnerships with rivals. Clubman & 1275GT - its hip to be square!
