when racing we needed to change engines in a hurry  ie less then 2 hours  ,  so i welded a 1/4 nut to the back side of the collar  and used a correct length sholder 1/4 bolt with a bellville star washer  ,   it worked great    never had one come loose and took  few seconds to take the bolt out and free the rod changer .

thanks, i'll have to jack the car higher then, i dont have enough space to swing...

Into reverse, use the correct sized punch and a BFH.
The first time I did one, I used a small hammer and nothing happened - give it a decent whack with a lump hammer.

You don't need to get the pin all the way out either - ss long as the pin has exited the shaft coming out of the gearbox the collar will slide off okay.

right now its in reverse so that the pin is at an angle and i've hammered it out about 1/4 but i think its going to hit whats behind (the thing where the other rod bolts to) it before it can come out...
