I was misled on the Aveo being a Deawoo product. It was the Metro that was a Suzuki product. I just got my wires crossed..... that happens when you get old. Ha Ha !!!

The Aveo is actually a Daewoo Kalos which is sold in 120 countries under various names. Even though the Cobalt gets better EPA fuel mileage, most businesses prefer the Aveo for their durability.

Rayman 1946, your Metro is one of the very few exeptions to the rule. It looks like it's taken care of. It's a shame that GM pulled these from the U.S. market back in 2001. I know that I slammed them earlier in this topic but the few nice ones that are still out there like yours deserve honorable mention.

I think the Chevy Aveo is about as close as you're going to get to a reissue of the Geo Metro. It's basicly a thinly disguised Suzuki Areo.

Believe it or not, Pontiac is sceduled to get a version of the Aveo. It will be called the G3. Pontiac also marketed the Metro in Canada as the Firefly.

Yours is handsome and shows pride of ownership. Many on the street, and junkyard if I might add, does not.

Not just he, but his posse as well.  I believe his legs are also sticking to the vinyl.  ...and his credit is "wack."   Both of those commercials are etched into my brain forever.  Whomever did the jingle did a good job! (Whomever?  Whoever?  Jeez I always mix that one up.  Spank!  I call upon your mighty red pen and teachlyness to correct my errors!)

$7000, that does seem like a lot for a car that only gets 40mpg; i guess if you are trading in a big SUV anything over 30mpg is a miracle. Ill keep my civic VX for now (unless the loremo comes to the US http://evolution.loremo.com/

I had three Metro's in my life. Two 3 cyl./5 speeds and one 4 cyl./auto.. The 4 cylinder was a waste of time.....the 3's did GREAT and got 39MPG no matter how hard I drove them.

Thing is, most of the ones you find today have been beaten to DEATH by kids delivering pizza's and those who treated them as "disposables".

I must say, the little things are tough as nails......if maintained properly.....and that's a BIG "IF" with Metro's.

I sold my last one because my darling bride wanted an SUV....that SUV is long gone and OH do I miss that little mileage monster. :(

I agree and disagree w/ mark. They do run cheap, rust, and the 3-cyls tend to get noisy after a while. But expensive to fix with hard to find parts? I disagree. I did a complete rebuild one of these engines for less than $500, including the cost of the engine block and head. All new stainless valves, decent pistons, bearings, oil and water pumps, gaskets, etc. Yeah, rust can be expensive to repair, but it's no more expensive than any other rusty old car. You can find spares by the boatload at almost any scrapyard and most of them fit in your pocket! I think last time I went salvaging, they had probably 30 nearly of these in decent condition for picking(minus the smashed bits which is why they were in there). The only thing that hasn't been cheap and easy to find are some various bolts and CVs and half shafts.

When they break, they're expensive to repair and given their age, hard to find parts for. The floors rust out at the lower control arm mounts and also at the strut towers. The three cyl. engine is good for about 80,000 miles if you find one that's been pampered. Most of these cars were just driven into the ground and left for dead. There are much better econocars out there to be had for a reasonable amount of money.

I agree. How much more is a Civic new?

True story...found a roller red over factory teal blue '76 Mini 1000 in a barn in 1991, barely ran, bought for $700, spent $9,000 total on restoration/mods, son's daily driver for 10 years, he sold it for $12,500 in early 2005.  Car was almost free, excluding our labour.

Gas prices have increased the value of geo metros. Highest I heard one go for was 7,000.
