What timing is that, to get that picture. How did the cyclists not see it coming? Where did he come from? There are a lot of questions of how could this happen. QS Nice post, it just shows us how fragile life is. If it was a race car or something else, I am sure someone would object. But this is not graphicially, morbid in my opinion. I have seen worse, but I work ER, and am military. No further comment. Thank You in advance! Horrific picture, and I really should just let this thread die, but I would have to estimate that the police car was leading the cyclists as is usual when escorting a group, and the cop had just got out of the way of the car as it came directly at the group. rusted subframe bolts are the hardest material known to man...

A photo showing the moment someone died, It really has no real relevance here. Its just the way it sits with me,

Personally I think this thread is in bad taste. Just an opinion and not a dig.

Looks like two l anes each direction. Driver could have gone to the right to avoid the riders, if he weren't coked-out. It's possible that the cop moved around the group when he saw the oncoming car, or he could have been illegally escorting them counter to the lane he's in (but he's a cop, so would it really be illegal...? ).

Holy crap this is insane! Unbelievable.
QS, you make a good devil's advocate point, but didn't the first article claim that the guy was asleep?
That really is a weird place for that cop car, unless it was an organized event with a police escort. ____________________________

I wanted to say something about that but didn't want to appear unsymphatetic. A Lawyer could argue that the police car blocked his free travel hence he tried to avoit it. But then he was on crack too though. Very unfortunate for all concerned. ------------------ QuickSilversVille

The photo appears to be at the point of impact, so why is the police car in oncoming traffic? Doug

From a reputable cycling website. It appears it wasn't a race but rather an organized fun ride (not competitive). One rider has died and five others remain in a critical condition following a horrifying accident in Mexico. A vehicle driven by 29 year-old Jesse Campos ploughed into the rear of a bunch of riders during the third Matamoros-Bagdad Cycling Tour, a family ride in Matamoros, Mexico. United States of America cyclist Alejandro Alvarez was killed as a result of the accident. The 30 year-old is believed to have died at the scene while five others, including a 14 year-old, were rushed to hospital where their condition is listed as critical. Images taken as the accident happened relive the horrifying accident, however are too graphic to publish. Mexican media has reported authorities claim that Campos admitted to using cocaine prior to the accident.

MONTERREY, Mexico - A car plowed into a bike race along a highway near the U.S.-Mexico border, killing one and injuring 10 others. The 28-year-old driver was apparently drunk and fell asleep when he crashed into the race Sunday, police investigator Jose Alfredo Rodriguez said Monday. A photograph taken by a city official showed bicyclists and equipment being hurled high into the air by the collision. Rodriguez said Juan Campos was charged with killing 37-year-old Alejandro Alvarez of Monterrey. Authorities said the wreck happened 15 minutes into the 34-kilometer race Sunday along a highway between Playa Bagdad and Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas. Campos said he is an American citizen living in Brownsville. The U.S. Consulate could not immediately confirm that. "We are looking into the incident in terms of whether American citizens were involved,'' consulate spokesman Todd Huizinga said. ------------------ QuickSilversVille
