Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
What can transform a peaceful sylvan lawn in Gold Country into a carnival overnight? The annual Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party of course! Those who were there got to see first hand all the eye candy, but for those who were not, the Mini's ranged from an electric Moke to a VTEC powered Classic, to Randy Steven's tricked out CVT to Robert Holt’s Purple Haze convertible to three full on Mini race cars: my sprint car, Jacques Andres' enduro car and Eric and Colin Herricks's rally car, and many in between.

by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
My Mini has a new setup for this race. Speed parts from my sponsor Mini Mania have been added by my sponsor Bay Bridge Motors and USTCC sponsor Nitto has provided four brand new NT 01 tires. This will be my first official race with the US Touring Car Championship and I look forward to hitting the grid with more horsepower and quicker lap times.

MINI Clubman Review

Published: 21st April 2008
The new MINI was launched in 2001, to much acclaim. Although bigger than the original Mini, what it lacked in rear legroom, it made up for in unusual styling and a vast array of personalisation elements, much loved by a local estate agent.

The MINI Clubman has the same raft of options but its main benefit is the extra length, which should make rear passengers happier.

1275 MPi as modified as it can be(which isn't much) best highway was 43 mpg(with a 2.76 FD) and overall for the past 6 years is 33(last year and half with a 3.1 FD)

Regular maintenance helps as our 1098 wagon is only getting 27, but the carb needs serious attention.

A bone stock 998 carb'ed car gave me 34 mpg all day long and 38 mpg on the freeway.  I've never done that well with a 1275, but all my 1275's have had HIF44's on them, no SPI's or MPI's.  Don't overlook them if the right car comes along.

Life is driving Minis.  Everything else is just waiting.

A 998 carby powered mini will give the best mileage/driveability balance in my opinion, I found the MPI cars to be thirsty as heck, possibly that was the wildly optimistic fuel gauges on those cars as well.

I never had or drove an SPI so I cannot comment and 2 of my MPIs had the 90hp kit.

cheers. Peter

No more cars left, Westpaminis is now just a memory, Good luck to all those hard working dealers left out there, We can tell you its not easy. We have fully enjoyed meeting all the fine folks we have in the business.

Some people may disagree about SPI's, but I have 2 SPI cars and I like them. Best MPG was 43, but not a regular thing, more like 35MPG. Haven't really had any trouble with them. They start great in the winter, I drive them everyday. Todd

My Mini's are un-officially sponsored by Coor's brewing company.

hey y'all,

i've always wanted a mini but fell into a triumph a few years back.  thinking of selling the triumph and wanted to get into a mini, but with fuel prices going the way they are, i have some questions.  I know the smaller motor in a mini, and thus lower hp, will give me better fuel economy, but what about spi's and mpi's?  i know switching most other cars over to efi get better economy and power.  I guess i'm wondering what mpg i can expect from different models of mini's and still give me a fun car to spend money on and tinker with.  thanks.

and do the spi's and mpi's have more safety features?  and is there a place i can find way too much info on the injected cars and engines?  i can read and learn for myself, i just don't know where to look.  thanks again for the help and insight.

 -Jon
