Rotors are available for $75 - 100 usd. There are several styles of pads available on this site and the ebc green pads from other vendors. Calipers are used only as no new are available but several vendors will rebuild them for you for a price. Around town driving the 998 brakes are fine but freeway driving and trying to stop faster than a 4 wheel antilock vehicle would be a losing event but so would drum brakes. I've used them for over 3 years now with no problems. I wouldn't autocross with them. A brake booster helps the feel and pedal pressure issues. Certainly no worse than the twin shoe drum design but definitely not as good as S brakes. My opinion, but then again... dan

Mx5nut, there are different answers to some of your questions. First, the 7" parts are not available new anymore, other than the rotors which occasionally show up, so in that respect they are more rare than Cooper S discs. Second, it is only considered a negative for a '997 or '998 Cooper to have 7.5" S discs if you are going for a concourse show winner. 95% of buyers who understand the difference between Cooper and Cooper S disc brakes would put a higher value on a car with Cooper S discs. I gladly dumped my 7" Cooper discs for 7.5" S discs on my Morris Cooper. Third, yes there is a huge difference in stopping performance. Cooper discs have been compared to twin leading shoe drum brakes, or worse. The pad area is so small that stopping power is greatly diminished over Cooper S discs. There were instances where I needed to stop fast, and I could feel the brake pedal start to twist under my foot because I was pushing so hard, and the wheels still would not lock up. The Cooper S discs take roughly half the force (without a brake booster) to achieve the same stopping power, and you can lock them up with moderately more pedal pressure. I wouldn't trust my life in modern traffic to 7" discs. However a 100% correct trailer queen should retain them for originality. "I drive a Mini. What are you compensating for?"

I don't mean to piggy-back (well maybe I do), but I am wondering if the 7 inch parts are still available new somewhere. I have not bee able to find them on this site or others. In the interest of originality/value, is it seen as a negative if a genuine Morris Cooper has been fitted with 7.5 in brakes? Further, unless I have a huge power increase, is there a really big difference in performance between the two setups?

Yes I believe they are sold but I bought the parts to convert the 998 brakes to 7.5 brakes last week so now I am just recouping some money. If the deal on the 998's falls through I am going to part them out and sell them on ebay over a few hours.

So it sounds like you sold them, or did a partial trade? "I drive a Mini. What are you compensating for?"

Pete; I know the stuff is worth more then $200. The pads alone are probably worth that. Then there are the calipers, dust shields and rotors which probably have less then 5k miles on them. But I got new 7.5 brakes out of the deal so I am already ahead of the game.

Even better price would be gotten in Japan but TTF would know that from selling steeering wheels, they are sticklers for original early bits. Over here in UK I do not see the 7 inch set ups going for much, they love the S brakes though. Peter No more cars left, Westpaminis is now just a memory, Good luck to all those hard working dealers left out there, We can tell you its not easy. I sold my 998 Cooper disc brakes and components on Ebay 4 years ago for $460. I then imported a used 'S' disc brake set up from the UK for $550. It was the best $90 I've ever spent! I would put them on Ebay, as people are willing to spend crazy money for correct parts for their restorations. Certainly a wider potential customer base than here. "I drive a Mini. Thanks Pete--I'll have to pass at this time. Heck of a deal, but funds are tight until the sign business gets me some more work.

I have full set of 1275 GT uprights, arms and axles, S brakes were installed on the 1275GT. These were a complete set of 7.5 inch disk brakes when I bought them. I removed the calipers and drive flanges. Dr Mini has first grabs on them but shipping may be a problem.

The last set I saw on ebay sold for over $200 usd ($260 or so if I remember right). I would jump on the parts but I've got spares for most everything now and am looking at the "S" conversion in the future. dan

Would anyone have any interest in some 998 Cooper 7 inch disc brake parts. These are comming off my mini because I am doing a 7.5 inch brake conversion. 998 Calipers (2) Left and right. Just removed from my Mini tonight...well the left one at any rate. Rotors (2) These replaced my old ones a few years ago Drive Flanges (2) CV's (2) Right one is good but left one was starting to tap when I checked it last week but lots of miles left on it...with castle nuts and washers. Dust shields (2) Right and left with tabs. Brake pads (6 sets) New. I have kept the uprights and the screws to hold the flanges to the rotors otherwise complete. If your interested make me an offer. stock_mini at hotmail.com
