Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
What can transform a peaceful sylvan lawn in Gold Country into a carnival overnight? The annual Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party of course! Those who were there got to see first hand all the eye candy, but for those who were not, the Mini's ranged from an electric Moke to a VTEC powered Classic, to Randy Steven's tricked out CVT to Robert Holt’s Purple Haze convertible to three full on Mini race cars: my sprint car, Jacques Andres' enduro car and Eric and Colin Herricks's rally car, and many in between.

My Mini has a new setup for this race. Speed parts from my sponsor Mini Mania have been added by my sponsor Bay Bridge Motors and USTCC sponsor Nitto has provided four brand new NT 01 tires. This will be my first official race with the US Touring Car Championship and I look forward to hitting the grid with more horsepower and quicker lap times.

MINI Clubman Review

Published: 21st April 2008
The new MINI was launched in 2001, to much acclaim. Although bigger than the original Mini, what it lacked in rear legroom, it made up for in unusual styling and a vast array of personalisation elements, much loved by a local estate agent.

The MINI Clubman has the same raft of options but its main benefit is the extra length, which should make rear passengers happier.

I'll take "Amazing Drummers" for 1000, Alex.  I guess I'll have to just appreciate the addition of the squeaks.  Under heavy sedation.  Maybe with 15 years of therapy I can make it over this issue.

On to the next one - people eating crunchy things with their damn mouths open like cows.

Jimmy Page had a "habit" of compressing the crap out of the music when mixing it down.  This would make the louder and softer sounds closer to each other in volume.  With the limitations of recording technology back then, he couldn't edit out the squeaks.  But it did allow him to get that signature drum sound.  So would you rather have no squeaks or the amazing drum tones?

I'll take the drums

I would have loved to see Led Zeppelin play live.  There's quite a few really cool bands I missed out on.  :(

I once heard them at the Fillmore Auditorium back in 1970 and I was hearing all kinds of squeaks and things! But "WOW" what a show!

What it needs is........   More Cowbell!

Quack.  Quack.   Orange Cream soda.  Shaken, not stirred.
Served with a side of melted peanut butter toast.

YES!  That's another song that it's really clear in - 'specially because of the quiet intro.

Ok.  So I'm not crazy.  Well, not crazy because of that specific thing

Latka, you will hear the same squeak at the beginning of 'Since I've Been Loving You' as well.  There are others that I cannot remember at this moment.

I guess Page wanted to create a feeling of being there, squeaks and all.

On my way home from school this morning I was listening to the radio and Led Zeppelin's "Ocean" came on the radio.  One of the things that has bothered me about that particular song (and others recorded by them around the same time) are the squeaks.  "Squeaks," you say, "I've never heard squeaks."  It sounds like Bonzo's bass drum pedal is squeaky.  If you listen just a fraction of a second before each bass drum hit you'll hear a "squeak!" - easier to hear when he does a quick back-to-back hit on the drum.

Yes, I'm goofy.  Yes, I'm operating on a few hours sleep.  It's something I wanted to bring up before - I can't be the only one that hears it!  It's funny though - when I hear that, it's hard for me to focus on the song... just like Stephen Stills' "Love the One You're With".  Once the steel drum bits start that's all I can focus on.

I'm sure there's some medication (beer?) that'll help me with my ailment.
