I'll take "Amazing Drummers" for 1000, Alex. I guess I'll have to just appreciate the addition of the squeaks. Under heavy sedation. Maybe with 15 years of therapy I can make it over this issue. On to the next one - people eating crunchy things with their damn mouths open like cows. ---------------------------------------------- My Higher Authority is the German Purity Law of 1516 .

Jimmy Page had a "habit" of compressing the crap out of the music when mixing it down. This would make the louder and softer sounds closer to each other in volume. With the limitations of recording technology back then, he couldn't edit out the squeaks. But it did allow him to get that signature drum sound. So would you rather have no squeaks or the amazing drum tones? I'll take the drums

I'm trying to save what (little) money I currently have for Mini stuff. No time for pot!    lus, I'm goin to school. It's hard enough as it is. I don't need something to slow me down! I would have loved to see Led Zeppelin play live. There's quite a few really cool bands I missed out on. :( ---------------------------------------------- My Higher Authority is the German Purity Law of 1516 .

I once heard them at the Fillmore Auditorium back in 1970 and I was hearing all kinds of squeaks and things! But "WOW" what a show!

YES! That's another song that it's really clear in - 'specially because of the quiet intro. Ok. So I'm not crazy. Well, not crazy because of that specific thing ---------------------------------------------- My Higher Authority is the German Purity Law of 1516 .

Latka, you will hear the same squeak at the beginning of 'Since I've Been Loving You' as well. There are others that I cannot remember at this moment. I guess Page wanted to create a feeling of being there, squeaks and all. Henry

On my way home from school this morning I was listening to the radio and Led Zeppelin's "Ocean" came on the radio. One of the things that has bothered me about that particular song (and others recorded by them around the same time) are the squeaks. "Squeaks," you say, "I've never heard squeaks." It sounds like Bonzo's bass drum pedal is squeaky. If you listen just a fraction of a second before each bass drum hit you'll hear a "squeak!" - easier to hear when he does a quick back-to-back hit on the drum. Yes, I'm goofy. Yes, I'm operating on a few hours sleep. It's something I wanted to bring up before - I can't be the only one that hears it! It's funny though - when I hear that, it's hard for me to focus on the song... just like Stephen Stills' "Love the One You're With". Once the steel drum bits start that's all I can focus on. I'm sure there's some medication (beer?) that'll help me with my ailment. ---------------------------------------------- My Higher Authority is the German Purity Law of 1516 .
