Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
What can transform a peaceful sylvan lawn in Gold Country into a carnival overnight? The annual Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party of course! Those who were there got to see first hand all the eye candy, but for those who were not, the Mini's ranged from an electric Moke to a VTEC powered Classic, to Randy Steven's tricked out CVT to Robert Holt’s Purple Haze convertible to three full on Mini race cars: my sprint car, Jacques Andres' enduro car and Eric and Colin Herricks's rally car, and many in between.

My Mini has a new setup for this race. Speed parts from my sponsor Mini Mania have been added by my sponsor Bay Bridge Motors and USTCC sponsor Nitto has provided four brand new NT 01 tires. This will be my first official race with the US Touring Car Championship and I look forward to hitting the grid with more horsepower and quicker lap times.

MINI Clubman Review

Published: 21st April 2008
The new MINI was launched in 2001, to much acclaim. Although bigger than the original Mini, what it lacked in rear legroom, it made up for in unusual styling and a vast array of personalisation elements, much loved by a local estate agent.

The MINI Clubman has the same raft of options but its main benefit is the extra length, which should make rear passengers happier.

What's your plans for the old starter and solinoid?  If you are getting rid of them, I am interested.

Are you sure the solinoid is bad?  The reason I ask is, that it must be bolted to something metal (ie grounded) before it will work.  As it is shown, I know that it won't work.  Also, you might want to check and see if the flywheel you have is compatable with the new starter before you buy it.  It may or may not work with the flywheel you have currently.

The high torque starter has a large terminal with a nut (12V from battery) and a small spade terminal (from ignition switch).  Connect the battery cable, which you will have to lengthen most likely to the large nut on the starter, and connect the ignition switch wire that is connected to the other terminal on the old solonoid to the spade connector on the starter.  If you don't know which wire is the ignition wire, get a test light, and turn the key to the on position.  Find a wire going to the solonoid that is hot, then turn off the ignition and see if the light is now off.

Note:  you will still need to attach the other wires that are now connected to the battery side of the solonoid to the large nut terminal on the starter.

You could also bypass the starter's built-in solonoid by jumping the spade terminal to the large nut, and replace your Lucas solonoid.  This would let you keep your wiring as stock.

Pretty easy.
