Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
What can transform a peaceful sylvan lawn in Gold Country into a carnival overnight? The annual Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party of course! Those who were there got to see first hand all the eye candy, but for those who were not, the Mini's ranged from an electric Moke to a VTEC powered Classic, to Randy Steven's tricked out CVT to Robert Holt’s Purple Haze convertible to three full on Mini race cars: my sprint car, Jacques Andres' enduro car and Eric and Colin Herricks's rally car, and many in between.

Race Report -USTCC

Infineon Raceway, April 11, 2008.
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
My Mini has a new setup for this race. Speed parts from my sponsor Mini Mania have been added by my sponsor Bay Bridge Motors and USTCC sponsor Nitto has provided four brand new NT 01 tires. This will be my first official race with the US Touring Car Championship and I look forward to hitting the grid with more horsepower and quicker lap times.

MINI Clubman Review

Published: 21st April 2008
The new MINI was launched in 2001, to much acclaim. Although bigger than the original Mini, what it lacked in rear legroom, it made up for in unusual styling and a vast array of personalisation elements, much loved by a local estate agent.

The MINI Clubman has the same raft of options but its main benefit is the extra length, which should make rear passengers happier.

Similar to what Dan said, but a regular hammer or a dead blow hammer will work best when snapping the outer CV off of the driveshaft.  Pull the boot back, hold the driveshaft assembly vertically with the outer CV at the bottom, with the nut on, and give it a fine smack on the outer corner of the outer part of the CV.   I see more issues involved in replacing the circlip than I see from re using the circlip, so I would not recommend changing it.  Your results may, of course, vary.

Stephen,  I think you mean remove the outer CV's from the drive axles right?  It's easy to do. I held the axle in one hand with the CV pointing downwards and tapped the outer rim in multiple places with a rubber mallet. It took about 4 good wacks to pop it off the axle. Make sure you leave the axle nut on the end of the CV if you plan on re-using them and work over your workbench or else you'll break a toe when it lands on your foot.  Replace the metal retainer clip on the drive axle before reinstalling the CV.  good luck, dan

Ok. Thanks to some breaker sockets recommended by the guy at my local family hardware store I got off all my rusted crusty bolts. I removed my hub assemblies, and control arms. I cleaned my bleeder screws, tapped out my bearings, and am now in the process of removing my ball joints (all of which seem to be in rather excellent condition under the old grease. As I wrecked one of my outer bearings trying to remove them improperly (as well as an outer grease seal), I would like to know the proper way of removing an outer CV. I think I can just 'pull' them off, But as with my brake lines, I don't know if there is a "secret" way of getting them off. Thanks to everyone who has been helping with my newest obsession.
