hugh you should listen to quick silver , ok to start not all race cars are one car and pixie is no exception, in short here is what I know , ( and its always subject to new information even after 44 years ). pixie was a 997 copper one of 4 that was first to north america, and was raced and driven by fangio and innis the other three are not known by me to exist, ted Powel raced pixie till the 1275 copper "s" showed up as the 1964 as the first "s" ted had connection with BL he was a lasion transport minister and was posted in UK for many years , the story goes he had a 1964 1275 "s" sent over before they were imported into the north america market , this car was called trixie same white black colors same number 30 , ted raced both ,till trixie had a trailer accident and wrecked the front end . ted raced pixie for a few races and drove off the track at st jovite , wrecking the rear end . so ted cut the rear end and roof off trixie the "s" and welded it up to pixies the cooper , front end. Ted had to have a street regestered car for the trans am ( rules ) so he registered pixie/trixie as a 64 "s" right or wrong , thats history , so I have only ever caller her pixie ( liked the name better then trixie ) and because its reg vin as a 64 "s" 1275 thats what I advertise. leave it or like it ,that was the way it was in the 60's . no one is trying to pull the wool over any one Pixie was a still remains one of north americas best most winning racing minis, there are a few oher great minins with good history but I do not own them so I am selling pixie and she will be for sell when I totaly rebuild her to as best a specks as i can in the 64 time frame. I can not race any more due to neck injuries ( a big flip at atlanta ( remember don ) and I do not make a good garage racer , would rather see them go to a great home like Big AL . who will take care of them and possible floor it once and a while.

So I was right. It is not a real "S", but rather a 997 Cooper that was used in the launch of the Mini Cooper in North America. The article I have is in the magazine, "Foreign Car Guide", and the magazine referred to them as the 850 Cooper. There was more than 4 of them as well. Bottom line is that if someone pulled a Heritage Certificate on the chassis number it will come up as a 61 997 Cooper. Yeah, it may have had a famous name drive it on some occassion, but it is NOT now, nor will it ever be a genuine Cooper S, much less the first one imported to the US. Good story line, but as Andy Griffith would say, "that dog don't hunt!" Good luck in the sale. $50 bucks says it won't fetch $40 large (documented) in your lifetime.

it was the first "s" in canada and usa we belive as 4 were brought over early 61 or late 62 for the f1 or f5000 race ' its a 62 uk car registerd as a 64 in canada ( so thats why i call it a 64 ) the history is well documented it probibly was a 997 as it arrived in canada . originaly a mk1 body it was later converted to a mk2 to keep getting money from BL as it was a sponsored BL entry. and they wanted the lastest body style .

Are you saying BMC didn't import any 63 Cooper S'? I know of at least one 63 American spec 1071S, so not sure about your claim of the 64 S being the first in North America. Yes, could have been driven by Fangio and Ireland, but think the rest of the story is suspect if 64 is the timeline. I have a magazine article where Fangio, Ireland, Moss, and others did an exhibition race of sorts in 997 Coopers to introduce those cars to NA. Would be interesting to see where the seat belt/shoulder harness location is on the car you have. Close to the top of the B pillar or halfway down?

the next car for sale is a very special mini a original 64 "s" the first one in north amerca , was brought over by BL to be in the feature race at mosport f1 or f5000 they callled it then , fangio and innis ireland drove her , she was rolled by ireland and powell bought it , he raced her in 4 trans am events , took c class a few times and won many trophies , I bought it in 87 as it was from the last race still on the trailer , we rebuilt her and raced it in club, vintage and scca evets , winning most or at least placing on the podium. never been street driven , has over 300 race weekends and is being rebuilt , comes with a failry new full race motor full dog box lots of power , it will be offered for sale by summers end , price will be 40+k or if some one wants a project as she sits with motor and spares 30k. his should bring out the cries of no way a mini is worth 40 k well suprise it will sell .

Bob, back from the sunny south??.
Still got your sandblaster, sent you an e-mail over the winter. I'm not done with it, but if you'd like it back, let me know and I'll get it in the mail ASAP.
You;'ve been more than generous.
Thanks.
