Your Tartan Trim is the clincher. This was a Japan only option around 1996,would you believe? Unless someone changed the Interior trim.

thank you sirs...what i know so far....SAX = MG Rover, XN = Mini 1300, W = HLS/Mayfair, A = 2 Door sedan, X = 1300 SPI (standard compression ration 9.4:1, K + RHD, Automatic, B = 1300, D = Longbridge (Assembly Plant)...Vin apparently falls between years 1990 onwards. Just can't pin the exact year yet....if it helps it's fuel injected with radiator latched on the right side...tartan finish but can't tell if original interiors. Thanks to the mini mania article on chassis and vin numbers i was able to trace some of the details of the vehicle. Year/Make to follow hopefully.

Your probably right, even though it states Austin Rover as the manufacture, it probably should be British Leyland.  If the person has a contact in Great Britain, I'm sure the police there can run it in their database and give them a year of the mini.

Well the S is for Great Britain, and the AX is for Austin Rover and the 10th digit is B, which is for 1981, or 2011, I'm thinking 1981.
