Beautiful collection of cars,including the mini. I too drive my car several thousand miles per year.The S much more than the wagon.Both my cars are nice but not concourse level cars.I can help point out the stone chips etc. eople are more than welcome to comment on my cars because the pride is mine from building them and doing the work as a family. I did the wagon by myself almost 20 years ago.The Cooper S was completed with my son.Enjoy the memories and forget the petty talk.Hopefully we meet somewhere down the road and I will get to enjoy your mini too.
Peter, that is my dad's TR250, or over across the pond a TR5. It is a very nice car, new everything. He did some mods on it like: rear tube shocks, rear camber/caster adj. big toyota front brakes, finned drums on the rear, toyota trans. conversion, the engine was rebuilt completely with a modified cam, unleaded head, tr6 header pipe, with dual exhausts all the way back, new superlight wheels, etc. It sounds as good as it looks and is a blast to ride in. He just did finish it up a couple months ago. I like the color because it is not the typical color you see on those cars, although it was a stock color for that car. I have to say it would be my favorite of the TR models. Here is a shot of it:
Forget the mini for a moment, tell me more about the TR next to it, I have pined for one of those for ever. I almost bought a MINT calif import last year but B Elliot told me how they were not a good as a UK model (horsepower wise) I still think I should have bought it. I'd love a full on shot. Lovely looking mini and TR.

Mike,I just finished the car up this month, and still have things to do to it. I assume your car is perfect, concourse quality car? I had made a goal of getting the car finished by the show and did it. Was it completely finished, no. I still want/need to do some things to it like, install my Lucas fogs on the front, rear wipac " reverse " spots on the back, and sometime get the tach mounted inside. Do these things keep me from driving it? Do the little rubber pieces on the slam panel keep it from getting in the show? NOPE. I will say it again since you have a problem understanding the written word of English, It is not a concourse car, and I don't really care what you think of it. It is also amazing how much a small portion, and a passing observation I made has gotten you so riled up? Are there problems at home you want to discuss with your Shrink? Go and vent somewhere else, somewhere you may be appreciated more. It is amazing how many people have have the same opinion of you as I do now. If you don't like the forums then stay away. It certainly won't hurt my feelings not having you around. I think you are the only person I have met on these forums that has a problem with me. Did I meet you in a past life and steal your lunch money or something? Or maybe I broke your favorite Barbie while you were trying on her new dresses? Leave me alone and I will do the same, it will be quite easy for me to forget you.
Ron can repaint his slam panel, you can't change who you are MEB. Ron is a top notch PERSON before he is a Mini owner. I think by posting on the MM board, Ron was talking to people ON the MM board.
Wow, I never thought of myself as one of the " in" crowd? As far as being part of the British car club that puts this show on well yes, I guess I am. Is it a concourse car, is the paint perfect, is everything exactly where it should be... No, but I never said it was. I think it's a nice car, and not a bad looking job for the first time ever restoring a mini, with nothing to go buy but some books and some pictures. I do have to say, that you are right about not being in back of my car the whole time, I was keeping busy with my son, and looking around at all the cars at the show. I thought all the minis looked great, and was happy you all showed up again this year. After last year having the mini as the featured car it was good to see some here again this year. Maybe I thought more people knew who I was? Maybe I may have to do a better job at finding out who's car is who's. I must take the blame on that. As far as expecting things, I don't expect much from a lot of people anymore. I guess your post confirms that. I hope to see you and all the other mini at the show next year. I would hate to think my poor attitude would keep you away from such a nice venue. Never thought my post would draw this much attention or annimosity. If I have offended, I apologize and hope you will not hold it against me.
P.S. Mike, I just realized who you were when I put a face to the name, I did see you checking out my car(picking it apart) as you say, as I was eating my lunch behind it, and realized a compliment from you wouldn't really mean anything to me after all.
There you go. Too many of you people think that Mini Mania's board is the center of the Mini universe. I have many Mini friends who don't frequent this site and some who don't even know it exists. Of the Mini people I know who were at the show only one other owner even visit this site.
Okay, since you now know who I am, and as you say a compliment form me wouldn't mean anything, then take the following as a suggestion. If you going to show a car and expect compliments for a job well done, then remove the rubber bumpers from the slam panel BEFORE you paint the car, or at least replace them AFTER you paint the car.

Perception is reality and my perception from the pictures was his mini is in better shape than mine, so I think it's a nice looking car and maybe I will see it in person one day as well as many other member's cars. Sometimes you just have to recognize that someone puts blood, sweat and tears into something and that it was worth it. It doesn't take much on my part to encourage that kind of effort with a few "nice car" comments either.
Oh and by the way, I'm not part of the "in crowd", if anything I'm more of a loner having only attended one Mini function and one British Car Show in 3 years. I just like the Mini and like to help out others who own one, either with my time, parts or encouragement. dan

69, I had a 90 fprd probe gt and had it poaded with quite a few nice items. I never did show it much, it was outwardly, and mechanically stock. I had left it that way to hide what was on the inside. I used MB quart for all the separates, and JL subs, as far as amps go we were into the Precision power stuff at the time. I did have a very interesting head unit though, it was one of only a couple that were actually installed in rolling cars. It was an Eclipse DDL system, their first attempt at DDL, it was quite interesting, and also had a fibre optic hook-up for the cd changer. It was fun to sit in the car and change the modes from Hall, to rock, etc. I loved listening to baseball games on the radio because it sounded like you were actually at the game, with all the reveb etc. It was fun, but I sure wish I had all that money now to spend on minis! As far as the show scene with my mini, I'm not really worried about winning etc. just going to see others cars is the best part. Also, if you enter the show you usually get some nice goodies, t-shirts, and a great parking place! I will be driving this car, and will enjoy it a great deal. When it gets to the point I need to restore it again, I will do that, just like I did with my TR4A. THat's what cars are for drive em'

Holy cow, that thing looks incredible, I'm not even going to ask ehat that paint cost you! What kind of audio have you got inside? I used to be in the car audio scene when I was younger. I'm really not too worried about all the other stuff. If my dad is impressed by what I have done, everyone else's opionion takes second place anyway.
There is no way in hell that i'll remember model numbers and stuff but this is my best crack at describing what i have:
2 kicker 12 inch solobaric DVC - the square ones - these are powered by a Memphis 1500 watt amp, the all chrome one
front speakers are Focal, rear speakers are Pioneers....they are powered using a PPI Amp, i think it's a 400watt
the radio is a sony cd player...the flip out one that has the face all black when it's off
the alarm is a viper alarm, all door handles are shaved so i have poppers in each door controlled by the alarm, i have a 4pk of Sho-me strobes and i have police sirens that work with the alarm or separate...
everything is installed really really cleanly...i'm sure there is so much more but that's all i can really remember...i don't drive it much anymore, just collects dust....wish i could sell it really
As for the paint job......i paid 7k for it about 4 yrs ago, got it painted 3 times that year and it just got painted one more time about a month and a half ago, it's a house of kolors kandy green over a lime gold base...looks great but can't blend for S*it....so any little scracth usually ends up leading to a new paint job It was a full color change too, can't find a hint of the old color on that car
It was fun when i was 19 - 21....but now that i'm 28 attracting attention isn't necessarily something i'm really after

I don't give a flyin crap about winning a car show, but I go to and enter many. I go to see everyone else. If they gave an award for most original parts, and most enjoyed, I'd be the grand champ. I don't sit by my car. I print out a nice poster of what it is, and what I've done, and leave it there. I don't have a fortune into it. It's just another fun car.
Mike... I could not agree more. There is a part of the "car crowd" that is very much into the polishing and showing aspects of the car scene. I don't get it has that is not my thing (not that there is anything wrong with it.) My wife and I had this conversation last night... I get really no joy out of owning my Mini as a thing. I get tremendous joy out of driving it. (Honestly that has been my frustration with my own car is the time that is needed to keep all the little issues in order to be able to drive it. I know that is part of owning really any classic car but when available time is already scarse...)
It funny because we saw this same thing played out at the MINI's on the Dragon event this past weekend. While this is primarily a MINI event (there were only 5 classics in attendance that I saw) the people, for the most part, were a very nice group that really want to get out and drive and enjoy their cars. There was a contingent that had there cars dolled up and they were, for the most part I think, seen as the outsiders in a driving dominated event. They had a car show as part of the event this year but, by most accounts, it was rather under-attended (and it even took a fair amount of cajoling to even fill out the small field.)
So, I guess my point is (if I actually have one,) is that if you have a car that is intended to drive and enjoy then do just that and don't be too upset if the show crowd doesn't pay too much attention. If the show thing is what you want, then tailor your car and your participation to those events. Unfortunately I tend to think that it is tough to walk on both sides of the line JMHO.

I haven't read each post word-for-word, but got the general feeling of this thread, so felt I should add my 2c too.
For me, the car show scene for Mini owners is a bit weird.(and split) I think for a lot of us,(what percentage I am not sure?) it's the fun of driving the car, the cuteness of the car, the rapport we have with the public (kids included) and the ease of working on the car that are some of the Minis biggest attractions of owning these wee-beasties. It's not so much of "wow, look what $50k Cooper S I own that I brought here on a trailer"
For Lambo owners, owners of restored TR-3's, Corvette owners, etc. (and I don't want to point at anyone in particular) it's a bit more about "showing off"...Either "Look at my car, it's worth $200,000.00 or look at me....I spent 10 billion hours wrenching on this super rare Jensen Interceptor. How great am I---- whatever.....(yes, I am generalizing---guilty !)
I tell everyone, (*about my car)...."it's a FUN car, not a show car". That's my line. I am not scared to drive it. I feel it's not for the show scene. Maybe once per summer I'll take it down to the local evening show in the mall parkinglot, just so people that like Minis can see it,(they're quite rare here in my localtion) and I can look at some other cars that I like to look at too.
For me, I am happy it has a few small scratches and a couple small patches of bubbling paint, bugs on the bonnet and whatnot, as I would be scared witless to drive it if it was a big buck restoration. One of my favorite cars @ MME 03 in PQ was not in the show n' shine. It was a locals' Mini, parked off to one side, rust, scratches, mistmatched tyres and all. A daily driver. My hat is off to that person for keeping it real.
Not that I don't APPRECIATE a super concours car....I do....but have fun man....let go of it. EVeryone here has a nice Mini......heck.....they're Minis....what's not to like?

I'll add something in here as I have been in the car scene (car shows, sponsorships, tv commercials, magazine) before. All i can really say about it is that the car show scene is def not for everyone....and this includes me as i've stepped away from it. I've won numerous trophies and awards but like you say it's really not all it's cracked up to be....
i've come to learn this from shows, it's not worth the time or the investment. This is why i feel this way:
1 - you can't look at all the other great cars if your stuck behind yours waiting for the judges to come around
2 - after the judges come around you still can't leave your car because most likely it's open and the last thing you want is to come back to someone sitting in your car
3 - you spend all this time and money cleaning and registering to go to a show and have to listen to someone tell you about how you did it all wrong....i'd rather park it outside and not have to deal with that
My findings are that i'd much rather visit a show than enter in a show. This is the car that I have been working on since the age of 19 btw
