well apparently they let me turn off the car... i have no idea how. maybe one of those melted wires is completing a circuit. i have no idea how the door switch wires can get mixed up with the ignition... nothing looks out of place anywhere else, harness was stock when installed. The door jamb switches are simple contact ground switches - they just complete the ground for the dome light which has a constant power wire running to it. Steve Life is driving Minis. Everything else is just waiting.

I had this exact same thing happen with a TR6 and it was the alternator diodes as well.

If you are using an alternator, most likely the Diode(s) are shot. This will allow power to feed back from from the battery (through the alternator and light) back to the "on" side of the ignition switch. Roger

well did some more digging. i undid the harness connectors for the ignition switch and other harness connectors and nothing changed so that eliminates the switch took a falshlight and looked at the wiring behind the speedo and found at least 6 wires melted. i think the speedo harness is toast. no idea what happened there, its a clean wiring harness and should not have shorted out. only thing i can think of is my bro replaced the signal light solenoid/repeater and let the metal housing touch and short out on the brake master. could have melted a few wires. but no idea on why the ignition light stays on and car will not turn off. i even pulled all the wires from the fuesbox and the light still stayed on. Sounds like ignition switch is toast. Had the same thing happen in my van, would not turn off, had to stall it. You should be able to remove the switch and the lock barrel from the column and just replace the switch and keep your existing lock barrel, at least I did on my van. http://www.minimania.com/web/Item/37H6962/InvDetail.cfm Steve Life is driving Minis.
