Decided to replace the distributor cap on my '80 Mini as the current cap's pick-ups were quite eroded. Even the plastic that the contacts are embedded in, were chipped away. I disassembled. cleaned and reassembled a distributor from my box of spares and decided to trial fit a new cap as I suspected the rotor button may be making physical contact with the pick-ups in the cap. As suspected there was physical contact. There is too much 'play' between the cap and dizzy body. If the cap is shifted in either direction from center, the rotor hits the cap as I spin the shaft. If the cap is centered, no contact is made. Is there a cap out there, host, or anyone that offers a cap, with no play? Also, there is a side entry cap available. It is secured with screws. Does this cap provide more clearance from the weather shield behind the grill? Cheers, Craig
