Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
What can transform a peaceful sylvan lawn in Gold Country into a carnival overnight? The annual Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party of course! Those who were there got to see first hand all the eye candy, but for those who were not, the Mini's ranged from an electric Moke to a VTEC powered Classic, to Randy Steven's tricked out CVT to Robert Holt’s Purple Haze convertible to three full on Mini race cars: my sprint car, Jacques Andres' enduro car and Eric and Colin Herricks's rally car, and many in between.

Race Report -USTCC

Infineon Raceway, April 11, 2008.
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
My Mini has a new setup for this race. Speed parts from my sponsor Mini Mania have been added by my sponsor Bay Bridge Motors and USTCC sponsor Nitto has provided four brand new NT 01 tires. This will be my first official race with the US Touring Car Championship and I look forward to hitting the grid with more horsepower and quicker lap times.

MINI Clubman Review

Published: 21st April 2008
The new MINI was launched in 2001, to much acclaim. Although bigger than the original Mini, what it lacked in rear legroom, it made up for in unusual styling and a vast array of personalisation elements, much loved by a local estate agent.

The MINI Clubman has the same raft of options but its main benefit is the extra length, which should make rear passengers happier.

Yep - a Lola does show up quite often. He is trying to sell it.

Did they install turn signals?  Imagine it coming toward you with the high beams on at night...that would be blinding.

I would love to see a car like that on the road.  There was another car that Cliff posted, maybe a year ago or so, that was an all out race car with plates.  Maybe it was a Lola, I can't remember, but it was the same level of craziness.

Thanks Cliff.

I believe it's for a hand crank, to spin the engine over by hand, in case the battery or starter is not working.

Yep. sonny, that thar's a crank hole. Have a look at the red MG - same hole. Also the red Triumph has a flap in the bumper that may be a cover for a crank hole (dunno..). The hole was keyed so the crank wouldn't fall out. Part-way down the shaft would be a couple of short wings. When the crank hangs down the wings would be cross-wise to the slot. If you ever get a crank, remember to not wrap your thumb around the crank handle - any kick-back and you're thumb's gonna get it.

No worries - I had those photos but didn't post them. Of late - I starting to post some of the art shots that i take along with the full car shots. Before, I just posted the car shots. I shoot a few hundred photos each week. I usually post between 30 to 40.

That's good to hear.  As a side note - the folks (MOALA I think it was) that ran into Jay Leno out and about said he was just an honest to goodness gear head that loved to talk about cars.  Ok, so a bajillionare, but a car guy too.  That's always cool to hear.

Are these still your photos?  If so, I've seen a distinct change in them since 'ya first started posting 'em.  I don't mean for that to come out the wrong way at all - what I'm trying to say is I really like the style you're developing.  I've always been a big fan of the "parts of a whole" style where 'ya show the interesting bits rather than some people do - "Here's a line of Ferraris.  Here's a line of Jaguars" etc.

Thank you for posting up the pictures so regularly.  I've said it a few times...the car scene in Hawaii sucks pretty bad.  It's nice to see some really cool machines show up out there!

They are great for the most part. The guy that has the 3 mil+ Jag D-type is great. I have run into very few snoots. The vast majority just love to hang out, get coffee and shoot the breeze. Kinda a mellow SoCal crowd. At this kind of event - if you get to upitty about your car, soon enough some one will drive up in something as interesting or more. Keeps the egos in check.

Hey Cliff,

How are the people at the C&C events?  Are they all pretty cool, or has it turned into a snoot-fest?  It'd be cool to actually TALK to the people that own those cars.  robably some really cool stories!

Here on O'ahu we have our little British Car Day every year.  retty much the same players each time.  I tried to talk to one of the Lotus Europa guys to learn more about the car and got a ton of sass as a reply.  No wonder their car club is just an old man's hangout that's going to die!

I have got to make it out there sometime for a C&C.  There is some fantastic machinery out there.  Hahah...can't believe that 917 has license plates!  That's cool.

Thanks again. Those pictures are a real treat. The green Porsche 356 gets my vote this week.

I would love to pull up to a street light next to the Porsche 904(?) 906(?). What severe intimidation.

Oh, and that black car? It's not a beetle, it's the prototype TT

My vote is for the MB shots also. Timeless beauty. One is nice, a row is GREAT.

Yellow car's a Packard.  The chopped black Beetle gets my nod this week, but for photos, the MB's in the shadows are a great set, especially the shot of the interiors.  The shadows on the medium blue car up front really work well to make the picture more interesting.  Thanks once again, Cliff.

I am not an anti-BINI militant, in fact I like them for what they are and I do events with the local MINI club, but what in the world are they doing at Cars and coffee?  Tell me that was the spectaor parking area.

Ah, the 1980 red scirroco S with the Kamei air damn next to the blue carburated one.  Ah, the memories...

Is that thirties yellow one a doozy?
