BEJ is not a rich needle. Look for the problem elsewhere.

The needle is a BEJ with the mixture set to full lean I still get black smoke.

Also, make sure the choke is operating correctly.

I just got the car running and the car is running rich. I have a HIF44 Carb on the Minisport Manifold. The engine is a standard 1275 with only .010 shave off the head. The car starts and runs but I'm getting black smoke. I have an electric fuel pump that I have a presure regulator in-line at 1.5 pounds. The float is at the correct level. Can anyone suggest a leaner needle??
