Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
What can transform a peaceful sylvan lawn in Gold Country into a carnival overnight? The annual Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party of course! Those who were there got to see first hand all the eye candy, but for those who were not, the Mini's ranged from an electric Moke to a VTEC powered Classic, to Randy Steven's tricked out CVT to Robert Holt’s Purple Haze convertible to three full on Mini race cars: my sprint car, Jacques Andres' enduro car and Eric and Colin Herricks's rally car, and many in between.

Race Report -USTCC

Infineon Raceway, April 11, 2008.
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
My Mini has a new setup for this race. Speed parts from my sponsor Mini Mania have been added by my sponsor Bay Bridge Motors and USTCC sponsor Nitto has provided four brand new NT 01 tires. This will be my first official race with the US Touring Car Championship and I look forward to hitting the grid with more horsepower and quicker lap times.

MINI Clubman Review

Published: 21st April 2008
The new MINI was launched in 2001, to much acclaim. Although bigger than the original Mini, what it lacked in rear legroom, it made up for in unusual styling and a vast array of personalisation elements, much loved by a local estate agent.

The MINI Clubman has the same raft of options but its main benefit is the extra length, which should make rear passengers happier.

here's a couple of mine. i'm using 35% for all the windows except the windshield. the windshield only has a 5% visor. overall, i got the tint primarily for function. i drive my mini almost daily and california traffic means a lot of time sitting in traffic; the tint helps a lot.

I like to tint all side windows with 35% (legal here) and go the next step darker on the rear glass due to the light coming through the windshield.

Keeps the heat down in the summer and helps headlights from cars behind you from blinding you.

My Mini's are un-officially sponsored by Coor's brewing company.

Anyone else got pics of their tinted mini?  Please let me know what % tint it is also.  Going to hold off a few more days before I do anything.

So far in the poll No tint is leading followed by only tinting the rear half of the car.

Think i will do the rear half for now and see how I like it, can always do the rest later and if I dont like it at all it is not thet hard to remove.

Keep the votes, comments, and suggestions coming.

Thanks for your input and pictures.

New Ferraris have this as a feature, Adjustable tint. would be expensive i would imagine.

My experience was different on my MK4. The staples that hold the felt/rubber to the inner wiper did scratch my tint on the front windows in one spot. Also had the window rattle in the door and tick the tint in a few places. Old seals, though. If you are careful to roll the window up every time you close the doors, wouldn't be a problem at all. Resting an elbow on the top of the glass with window down or partially down is also something that may cause contact inside. If you replace all of the door rubber, you will certainly minimize the chance of the scratching.

I haven't had any problems with the tint getting scratched, and I roll the windows down almost every time I drive.  As long as you use a quality tint there shouldn't be any problems.
Thanks, that was my only concern as far as the front windows

for a light car with chrome stuff (grill, mirrors, handles, etc) I like silver/chrome tint. It's pretty light but works well. The downside (when I had it on my door windows) was it reflected on the inside of the car, too, so if Narcissus were to drive your mini, he may become distracted by the slight reflective glare on the inside of the glass.

See I would have said No to the tint but now that I see the Minis in this post, it looks really really nice. I wouldn't do mine because I think it would look queer with sliding windows but I think on a newer Mini it looks good.

oh and how cool I beat Mark to the finish line hahahaha!!!

And so my next question for those of you who do have tint.  Does the tint on the front windows get scratched easily from roling the windows up and down?  Mini's dont have the same soft rubber that modern cars do for the window to slide down into.

call me a "purist", even though I hate to be hot, and won't drive when it is really hot out (I'll use my air conditioned Camry above 80 or 90F), I just don't think a mini looks right with tinted windows.

Oh, sure, a super modified modern type mini can look fine, but since I like the "old" look, I'm not going to do it on mine, and i have thought about it a LOT.

Here's the thing though: the windows are so vertical, and the roof hangs so far over the front and the back (compared to modern car styling), that my mini with the windows open is actually COOLER to drive around in than my convertible MG with the top down. That's because the radiant sun heat doesn't get to me in the mini, I'm sitting in the shade the whole time.

So, who needs tint? ":o)

Tint it to the legal limit. OH allows 50% up front (which is really useless) and anything on the rear. They also allow 70% on the entire windsheild (which is very strange and rare). I'd go for 50 up front, 20 in the rear, and 70 on the windscreen. UNLESS you know for a fact that local cops don't carry tint guns and could care less about dark tint. In that case, I'd go for 20 all around, and 70 on the windscreen. If you never drive at night you could try 5 all around.

Here in Hawaii it's a needed item!  We've tinted all of our road-going minis and it helps to keep things cooler inside.

With my recent racer look, I though a couple vintage racing stickers of dark windows would look cool, and like you said, if you don't like it, take it off. If you have a picture of your car in good light, send it to me or post it. I'll tint it via photoshop for you.

Tint away sir.  I have more pics if you need
