Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
What can transform a peaceful sylvan lawn in Gold Country into a carnival overnight? The annual Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party of course! Those who were there got to see first hand all the eye candy, but for those who were not, the Mini's ranged from an electric Moke to a VTEC powered Classic, to Randy Steven's tricked out CVT to Robert Holt’s Purple Haze convertible to three full on Mini race cars: my sprint car, Jacques Andres' enduro car and Eric and Colin Herricks's rally car, and many in between.

My Mini has a new setup for this race. Speed parts from my sponsor Mini Mania have been added by my sponsor Bay Bridge Motors and USTCC sponsor Nitto has provided four brand new NT 01 tires. This will be my first official race with the US Touring Car Championship and I look forward to hitting the grid with more horsepower and quicker lap times.

MINI Clubman Review

Published: 21st April 2008
The new MINI was launched in 2001, to much acclaim. Although bigger than the original Mini, what it lacked in rear legroom, it made up for in unusual styling and a vast array of personalisation elements, much loved by a local estate agent.

The MINI Clubman has the same raft of options but its main benefit is the extra length, which should make rear passengers happier.

have you looked for an alternative manifold? Your current situation may be a bit of a problem if your engine mounts start to deteriorate!

I have an 850 with a HS4 single with a 1/4" spacer, and the carb is shoved into the back of the speedo, cant even get a thin air filter on it.(made a custom one) Wish there was a thinner manifold that allows for a proper air filter. The engine runs very well the way it is, just looks crowded back there. Paul

970 and 1071 blocks are shorter than 1275 blocks.

Clearance problem is only with the HIF carbs...which were not used on the small bore engines, if I remember correctly..

What about 1071 and 970? Aren't the blocks the same as 1275 and dispacement was changed by stroke?

So were there different manifolds for smaller displacement engines? There seems to be no issues with dual HS2, just the singles.

Not a small bore, large bore thing. It's 1275 vs the rest. The 1275 block is taller.

really? seems weird, as the mounting points are the same, and the block wouldnt be that more thick... whats the distance difference?

It seems that the engine of a small bore sits much closer to the firewall than a large bore. I seem to remember reading about this in a technical article, but I can not find it. Is it just the shape of the block that is different? Most everything else is the same.

The problem occurs when trying to find a manifold as the carb ends up sitting much closer to the firewall. There must have been small bore specific manifolds at one time.
