Everywhere is gettin punched in the gut right now. My buddy in San Francisco said the same thing dngerzone - he was surprised to find that it's cheaper here in Hawaii than over there. I can't even look at the damn pump when I fill up our cars (or truck!) anymore. ---------------------------------------------- My Higher Authority is the German Purity Law of 1516 .

A fellow mini club member did an mpg experiment on his late 80s Isuzu Trooper II within the last year and got over 50mpg for the stretch of highway he did it on-- something like 150 miles or so. In the middle of the night/early morning (to not hold up traffic), he short shifted and drove at just over idle speed on the rpm gauge except uphill. Never really went above 40 mph on the flats, he said. Nonethelsee, pretty incredible that a tall box with big tires could do that. He verfied it using his gps. I'm sure you could find it in a few minutes on google, but there's an enormous % of your fuel that is used to overcome wind resistance and that it increases eponentially as your speed goes over a certain mph. --Spank

Without a doubt Fuel injection. Not only do you get better power because the A/F is correct and consistent but the primary benefit comes from deceleration when you let off the gas the throttle position sensor is off and essentially shuts off fuel completely. Thereby saving fuel because you are only using it when in cruise or acceleration mode. Aaron http://community.webshots.com/user/66mg1100

Guru David Vizard did a lap around America averaging something like 50mph I believe. All explained in his tuning book or was it his Mini book.

everything I've ever read has said that for a 1275, the HIF44 / HS6 on a Minispares manifold was the cat's whiskers. The MPI intake manifold was supposedly a cast iron replica of that manifold.
to get the most, though, you also should adopt an LCB type exhaust too.

Got that covered. Went to the 3.105 FD, and now also have the econo primary gear, which makes it like a 3.0FD. I do have a HIF44 on a shelf, but needs a rebuild, and I don't have an intake.

Way back in the 80's they used to do economy runs as part of a club event to see who got the best mileage for large and small bore motors. A single HS4 carb on an alloy intake will probably be your best bet as long as your motor has a mild cam in it. A customer told me yesterday they paid $6.50 a gallon for gas in Big Sur this last weekend. This is going to get real ugly. Doug

With gas at $3.50, projected to be $4 by summer, and even some say $10/gallon in 2 years, I'm thinking the Mini might become less of a toy, and more of a driver. So I'm wondering what is the best intake set up for gas mileage with my 1275. I'm guessing that my DCOE won't be it. Would the best be the 1.75 SU on the MiniMania/MiniSpares alloy intake? Is there a better intake? Would the DGV get better mileage? How about fuel injection?
