Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
What can transform a peaceful sylvan lawn in Gold Country into a carnival overnight? The annual Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party of course! Those who were there got to see first hand all the eye candy, but for those who were not, the Mini's ranged from an electric Moke to a VTEC powered Classic, to Randy Steven's tricked out CVT to Robert Holt’s Purple Haze convertible to three full on Mini race cars: my sprint car, Jacques Andres' enduro car and Eric and Colin Herricks's rally car, and many in between.

My Mini has a new setup for this race. Speed parts from my sponsor Mini Mania have been added by my sponsor Bay Bridge Motors and USTCC sponsor Nitto has provided four brand new NT 01 tires. This will be my first official race with the US Touring Car Championship and I look forward to hitting the grid with more horsepower and quicker lap times.

MINI Clubman Review

Published: 21st April 2008
The new MINI was launched in 2001, to much acclaim. Although bigger than the original Mini, what it lacked in rear legroom, it made up for in unusual styling and a vast array of personalisation elements, much loved by a local estate agent.

The MINI Clubman has the same raft of options but its main benefit is the extra length, which should make rear passengers happier.

MPI cars have the map sensor mounted directly to the manifold. this was rover's solution the vacuum line problem of the spi systems.

Mine does this but only when the air temperature is above a certain level and the engine has warmed up to just below the normal line. It is such an intermittent problem that I dont have a solution yet, but im working on a few ideas. Ive noticed that it kinda tries to stall when going along at very steady to slight downhill driving. It would be nice to have an ACR4 plugged in to do some datalogging while driving to try and catch it when it happens. I do not think it has anything to do with the Idle Air control valve (IACV) as it tries to stall sometimes at steady speeds.

Great.  Thank you very much for the help.  I'll let you know how the sensor testing goes.

TPS, MAP.

There must be something aroudn the clutch mechanism that is moving or does it do the same thing if you slow down without pushing the clutch pedal?

If there is a way to know which sensors to check? Is a simple continuity check sufficient or does the continuity have to sampled as a function of time?

take it to a good electric shop so they can check all sensors for continuity.

Good to know.  The OBD II reader that I have plugged right in so I "ass"umed that it was.  My bad.

The car does idle fine for the most part.  It will cut out every few minutes when idling in neutral.  Thanks again.

The Mpi's never had OBD (I or II) of any sorts, so that is your problem there.

Does the car idle fine in neutral?

Hi guys.  My current mini is a 1998 MPI mini and I've had a problem with it quitting when I push in the clutch to come to a stop almost every time.  It also seems that at low loading the engine cuts out every once in a while.  The only thing I have done so far was change out the fuel filter. I have tried to use my generic OBD II reader to see if any codes can help, but I get an error every time I try.  My reader may not be able to read the mini for some reason.  Any ideas on the problem or ways to diagnose?  TIA.
