Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
What can transform a peaceful sylvan lawn in Gold Country into a carnival overnight? The annual Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party of course! Those who were there got to see first hand all the eye candy, but for those who were not, the Mini's ranged from an electric Moke to a VTEC powered Classic, to Randy Steven's tricked out CVT to Robert Holt’s Purple Haze convertible to three full on Mini race cars: my sprint car, Jacques Andres' enduro car and Eric and Colin Herricks's rally car, and many in between.

My Mini has a new setup for this race. Speed parts from my sponsor Mini Mania have been added by my sponsor Bay Bridge Motors and USTCC sponsor Nitto has provided four brand new NT 01 tires. This will be my first official race with the US Touring Car Championship and I look forward to hitting the grid with more horsepower and quicker lap times.

MINI Clubman Review

Published: 21st April 2008
The new MINI was launched in 2001, to much acclaim. Although bigger than the original Mini, what it lacked in rear legroom, it made up for in unusual styling and a vast array of personalisation elements, much loved by a local estate agent.

The MINI Clubman has the same raft of options but its main benefit is the extra length, which should make rear passengers happier.

Well, Norm.

Since you have chosen to show a pic of my mini in your first post ( flattered) I used Sherwin Williams Dimensions Pro D5-8415 00(A) for the Almond Green.

we will def check the color before actually painting the mini......this isn't the first mini i've restored, but my customer was wanting some very specific colors and i figured if i asked on a numerous amount of mini boards i could get a pretty good round about idea.......i will post pics of the mini when completed....

Thanks Again for all the help everyone....

Also, FWIW, I don't think declanm's reference was toward me...I have never had an Almond Green car that I have repainted.

Sometimes even if the person mixing the paint has the correct codes, they make mistakes and put too much of one and not enough of another when adding pigments.  As the paint is mixed by humans, it is possible to mis-read something and end up with a slightly off-colour.  Even in the best situation, you can't always take 2 cans of paint mixed by the same person and expect the colours to be exactly the same.  A test strip is always a good idea.

djfearious    don't make the same mistake I did with my first car painting attempt ever.  Make damned sure you have the painter test spray some sample pieces to make sure the color is right.  I went to a lot of trouble trying to find the right paint codes for the manufacturer, PPG, whose paint was used.  I even enlisted the help form someone well-respected on this site who has an Almond Green/OEW car that looked perfect.  In spite of all of that effort, checking and cross-checking, second opinions, etc, It still came out much too blue.  Not bad, but definitely not Almond Green.  I will never paint a car again without getting some test samples first.  Costly lesson, but one which will never be forgotten by me.

Cumberland Green was a Riley Elf colour.  Here is what I have on it.  BMC code was GN35.

British Racing Green was not a factory colour for Minis in 66-69.  It was used on other BMC cars, and by the Cooper Racing Teams.  The BMC code for BRG (63-69), is GN29.  The only mfg I have on that one is Ditzler/PPG: 46446

There is two different versions of OEW for early Minis.  Both have BMC code WT3.  I don't know what the difference is, but here is the breakdowns on the codes.  I have various codes for different mfg, but not necessarily codes for all mfg for each color.

Old English White #1 (59-65)

Ditzler/PPG: 8177

ICI: 2379

RM: BM149 or 6642

Dupont Dulux: 83445

Old English White #2 (66-68)

Glasurit: AST108

RM: BM150

Dupont Lucite: 8207L

Dupont Dulux: 97111
