Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
What can transform a peaceful sylvan lawn in Gold Country into a carnival overnight? The annual Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party of course! Those who were there got to see first hand all the eye candy, but for those who were not, the Mini's ranged from an electric Moke to a VTEC powered Classic, to Randy Steven's tricked out CVT to Robert Holt’s Purple Haze convertible to three full on Mini race cars: my sprint car, Jacques Andres' enduro car and Eric and Colin Herricks's rally car, and many in between.

Race Report -USTCC

Infineon Raceway, April 11, 2008.
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
My Mini has a new setup for this race. Speed parts from my sponsor Mini Mania have been added by my sponsor Bay Bridge Motors and USTCC sponsor Nitto has provided four brand new NT 01 tires. This will be my first official race with the US Touring Car Championship and I look forward to hitting the grid with more horsepower and quicker lap times.

MINI Clubman Review

Published: 21st April 2008
The new MINI was launched in 2001, to much acclaim. Although bigger than the original Mini, what it lacked in rear legroom, it made up for in unusual styling and a vast array of personalisation elements, much loved by a local estate agent.

The MINI Clubman has the same raft of options but its main benefit is the extra length, which should make rear passengers happier.

Thanks.  It was an exactly 12 hour day, but that was with 2 x 1 hour stops.

I've come to realize that pales in comparison to some real die-hard Iron Butt award nominees from far away places.  Some trailering Minis and some driving them !

It looks like the room has been scooped up-so please disregard my post-

Cheers and y'all have a great time-

Oh no ! I've been telling my wife for  years she'd get to meet Big Al someday.

Oh dear -- well, health must of course come first. Be well. We'll miss you and send pix of the adventure to Maine.

Sorry to hear of this Al but, if by some miracle the doc hasn't ruled out flying, hop on a plane and we'll shuttle you to and from the airport. Otherwise, be well and we'll look for you next year.

I'm really sad to hear the doctor has put the brakes on you joining in this year. But health is more important than a show, and its gives you plenty of time to plan for the Mini 50 celebrations next year.

Dave, Greg and I stuffed MME bags today and I saw your biz card as one of the items and said, "Cool, Big Al!" I was then informed you wouldn't be coming.    You were one of the folks I was especially looking forward to meet. But I completely understand. Take a deserved break and we'll all see you next year. Until then, be well!

Maybe Faith can help you unload that room?

-Not big news but depressing as hell!

My heart specialist informed me yesterday on my initial post -op visit that no way was l going on any 600 mile trip-He read the riot act and l guess, l have to go along with him-

So, no MMEast for me this year-What a bummer-Thanks Ron for offerring me the use of your clubman during the show-And sorry to the folks who l had promised to haul parts for-

So now, l have a suite at the Grand Jordan Hotel for Wed- Sat nite available to anyone who needs a room-Offering it at a slight discount of $400.00 to the first person who contacts me-

I just don't want to see it sit empty-

The following is an important message from Faith Lamprey at NEMO:

It appears some folks have reserved their hotel room, but have not yet registered for
the Meet.  If you plan to attend to the Meet and have not registered,
you can download the form from the
event website at www.mme2008.com or you can e-mail Faith at nemo@auroratechedi.com for a copy. If you
did not get a confirmation back from Faith and think you have registered,
you need to contact her immediately. She is all caught up with registrations and still has quite a few who have rooms reserved, but no event registration has been received.

If you want to use your credit card you can FAX the form to her at (401) 766-4591. You can also FAX the form and pay when you get to the Meet, however; it makes the registration process take longer.

Registered a Moke for Denis last weekend and received car number 106. Faith knew of 30 room registrations that are not registered for MME yet.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in 12 days.

Latest NEMO update:

..."The block of rooms is almost gone and they will only hold them for a couple more days at the reduced rate.  Hopefully, everyone who wants a room has reserved by now, but I want to remind those last minute procrastinators"...

Here's the latest update from Faith Lamprey of NEMO....

Only 5 weeks to go and things are falling into place!

The rooms at the Jordan are being snapped up and are almost gone, but
overflow rooms are available at the Summit only a few miles away at the same
discounted rate.  Registrations are flowing in.  If you have not sent yours
yet, drop it in the mail this week as the price goes up on June 1!  If you
have any problems or questions, please contact Faith Lamprey at
nemo@auroratech.com or (401) 766-6920.

The activity schedule has gone through several revisions and is about set.
The parking lot at the Bethel High School is reserved for the autocross.  A
Guided Nature Hike has been planned for the Kid's Event.  The final touches
are being made to a very scenic rally and many local tours (to town, to
fireworks, and even to the Bob Bahre Collection!)  The funkhana course has
been designed with a "Maine" theme.  We have added some tech sessions from
recognized experts and an entertaining slide show of Mini driving
adventures.   We even arranged a stop on your way to Mini Meet to view the
John Moir Car collection!

Hope to see you in July!

The more the merrier is not always the case. The hardest things for the organisers to do is to fix numbers. The hotels and caterers always want to know how many people. I am sure that Faith knows just how may rooms have been booked. She can then judge who is coming.

Providing that you booked at the host hotel.

I don't think the late entrance charge is a factor. But the hotel will charge the 2nd 50% of your  room 2 weeks before arrival. The rooms were the finite thing. Entry forms don't seem to be rolling in as fast as the choice rooms filled up.

Everyone knows where they are staying by now.

So why not make the organisers life easier by paying up front?

See you there, Deb, Keith D, Keith and Karin Claver and the rest of the gang from MMM

All registrations are keyed into a database and assigned a registration number.  The data is then e-mailed for verification and confirmation.  As there are a number of registrations coming in now, it might take a week to get it processed and confirmation sent. Faith was away for most of last week (it is annoying how work interferes with Mini fun!), but she promises to get caught up with all the registrations this weekend.

As a reminder.....registration fees go up as of June 1, so get those reservations in now to save a few dollars.  There are still a few nice junior suites available at the Jordan.  There are also rooms available at the Grand Summit, but that is a few miles away.
