Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
What can transform a peaceful sylvan lawn in Gold Country into a carnival overnight? The annual Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party of course! Those who were there got to see first hand all the eye candy, but for those who were not, the Mini's ranged from an electric Moke to a VTEC powered Classic, to Randy Steven's tricked out CVT to Robert Holt’s Purple Haze convertible to three full on Mini race cars: my sprint car, Jacques Andres' enduro car and Eric and Colin Herricks's rally car, and many in between.

by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
My Mini has a new setup for this race. Speed parts from my sponsor Mini Mania have been added by my sponsor Bay Bridge Motors and USTCC sponsor Nitto has provided four brand new NT 01 tires. This will be my first official race with the US Touring Car Championship and I look forward to hitting the grid with more horsepower and quicker lap times.

MINI Clubman Review

Published: 21st April 2008
The new MINI was launched in 2001, to much acclaim. Although bigger than the original Mini, what it lacked in rear legroom, it made up for in unusual styling and a vast array of personalisation elements, much loved by a local estate agent.

The MINI Clubman has the same raft of options but its main benefit is the extra length, which should make rear passengers happier.

I would have suggested if she wished to have me out sooner, she grab a brush and help out.  Otherwise, enjoy the wait....

I believe that every child has the right:

1. to be on a loosing team.

2. to not get their way

3. get beat up

4.  sometimes not get a turn.

When I hear about people making sure that no child "looses", by not offering a prize for first place, it makes me wonder what kind of adults we are creating.

Yeah, Zip, but you deserved it!

Good for you, Rick. Someone had to teach her some manners.

I concur with you, Cheese, except that letting them off ("...can you blame them?" is an example of  what you noted as a part of the cause. I'll add that "They" have been brought up in a time of unprecedented prosperity, with no idea of how some have labored to get us all to this point. The attitudes of entitlement and arrogance can go beyond the pale.

As a Senior Production Planner for a major paper goods company, my son deals with people over a wide range of ages and backgrounds. He says the hardest to deal with are from the tail end of the baby boomers and "Gen-X".

Short story... my alma mater has a 95-100% placement rate in my degree program. Twin girls graduating at the top of their class a few years ago were not offered jobs. They were the worst example of arrogant "Gen-X". When asked to   "Describe yourself in a few words." (trite, I know, but standard job interview faire) One replied "Gen-X". When the interviewer said "Really? Can you tell me more about that?", she replied dismissively, "Read the book".Sigh.

The good news is that we're talking about a few rotten apples, not the whole barrel, which still has some really bright, shining examples in it.

Now let's not get so harsh on the youth of today... Remember they'll be running things in another decade or so.

Why just today a polite young lady stopped jabbering on her cell phone long enough to flip me off.

Don't worry, the non (or less) grey haired members would have said the same thing!  Actually, I would have laughed at her, then took my own sweet time....

I see this more a problem with the way these 'younger folks' were raised by their parents.  Their parents created this fake little politically correct world, not the kids.  They raised their children in a world where they didnt keep score at the local little league because they didn't want to hurt the feelings of the kids who weren't very good at the game.  These kids were never told or sternly corrected when they did something wrong because that scalding might have been considered verbal or physical abuse.  They were told 'good job' even if they failed miserably at what they were doing.  They were handed every luxury, fed with a silver spoon, and burped after every meal.  They were coddled, given their way, and sheilded from the stark reality of this world for decades.

Now that these folks are out in the real world, they are treated the way adults are treated in the real world.  They have to work for what they want.  They have to wait in line like the rest of us.  And they aren't given their way each time they stomp their feet and pitch a fit. It flys in the face of everything they were taught as kids.  Can you really blame them for being they way they are?

 I wished I could say I was surprised reading that. . . .

Unfortunately, people today are all about me , me , me and have  what I call, the :

"I'm all alone in the world" syndrome and only see themselves and not their fellow man.

Sad, really.

My note to the local RCMP detachment today....

"At my age, I should probably have sympathy for younger people who have an outsized sense of entitlement.  However, when their temerity includes saying “I’m going to call the police” when they don’t get their way, I’m writing to you.

The situation, I’m at the Shell Car Wash (I have the receipt) on Harris Road in Pitt Meadows.  I’m the only one there and needing to give my vehicle a good wash because I’d gone over the Coquihalla and Connector on Saturday evening during snow accumulation, plowing, sanding and salting.  The vehicle is sandy, dirty filthy. So I’m going around the vehicle using the long handled scrub brushes which are provided with barrels of wash solution at the 4 corners of the setup and up pulls a minivan.

Now I’m more than half way around scrubbing the sills and wheels and moving right along because my time is important too, when out gets the young woman and asks, “Sir, are you just about done.”  My response, “I just have one more side to do.”  At which points she states that she only has a few minutes and taps her wristwatch and asks, "Can I go first?”  She didn’t like my answer which was “No, I was here first.  You can wait in line.  And, if our positions were reversed do you think you would let me go first?”

Well, this doesn’t sit well with her, though I can’t quote her directly, other than her using the words “you’re just terrible…I’m going to call the police”.  So, if you get a call from a young woman who believes “the seas should always part for her”, she won’t be wearing a crown but like so many other young people today, she clearly thinks of herself in a regal way with all of the impertinence that such self-affection bestows.

Question – does she always threaten to call the police when some one says no?  Could be, and maybe I shouldn’t be surprised, since our society does a very poor job of spelling out: “No, tell me please, what is it that you don’t understand about no?”"

End of note to RCMP

I tell you she should not have tapped her watch as if I had nothing better to do.  But she honestly believed that simply asking would get a grey haired old b..gger to get the heck out of the way.

And, I did not realize how long the Jeep was going to be inside the Car Wash since I've never bought the "full meal deal" car wash before LOL.
