A lesson to others. Get certification of the condition of such a crank beforehand, the crank owner should be responsible to prove the condition. Especially one who was as picky on your exchanged items. I found such people normally don't reciprocate, btw. So be cautious with this type. But you should also have had it checked immediately by your own shop to make sure given the value. Trust, but verify.
Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better
idiot....

1. Out the jerk so nobody else gets screwed by the seller. 2. You did the right thing replacing the crank. 3. When that much time goes by I think it's your problem although, it might seem harsh to say. I have owned numerous Triumph's over the years and there are both good and unscrupulous sellers of used parts. One individual named "Garth" from the East Coast was particulaly bad and lots of people have been ripped off. Let the Mini community know whom he is. Sometimes you have to take your lumps, but paybacks can be usefull also. It's a bummer you got ripped, but your intergity is intact, and is worth far more than a few bucks. In the long run that is what is most important.

Hello Guy's Just sitting here wondering what i should do next about a situation.... so here it is, please bear with me i can't type. An offer came to me for a std/std cooper S crank it had been magnafluxed and was ok. we worked out a deal for five 4.5 cooper S wheels and tires. Make of tires were not specified After i sent the five wheels one was bent so Marcel sent another wheel to him the bent rim was not returned. all original five looked fine by eye. 0032's were specified by him but i did not find this out until i went to pay for them I was irked because i was not thinking that top of the line tires were in the deal but sent the money anyways for four tires. he was not happy with this and insisted the deal was for five tires. I paid for a fifth tire. Later he upgraded again to 0048's but the difference was paid by him. Anyway several months went by and Bobb was going by the area and i arranged for him to pick up the crank. The crank looked good except it had a strange black coating and the mains needed to be ground. threaded plugs had been screwed into the rod journals where the brass plugs once were, but other wise it was as he said with a tag from a machine shop saying "magnafluxed OK" I stored it in my semi warm basement here in Seattle on a piece of foam with several other cranks. A year goes by and i trade it for some other parts to a friend that i deal with often. He was going to use it in his 66 S restoration. He starts his restoration last month and the engine builder Bobb starts by having all of the parts crack tested... Yep you guessed it.... Big deep crack across #4 rod journal. I contact the seller and he say's quote" It had been two year's and he could not verify that it was even the same crank . He can do nothing" . So that's where it stands today, yes it was a year and a half (not two) ago when the original deal was made. but it seems to me some effort should be made to get this right. So if you made it this far the big question here is "What would you do?" Aaron. By the way i am sending Bobb another S crank to replace the cracked one. seemed the right thing to do. http://community.webshots.com/user/66mg1100
