Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
What can transform a peaceful sylvan lawn in Gold Country into a carnival overnight? The annual Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party of course! Those who were there got to see first hand all the eye candy, but for those who were not, the Mini's ranged from an electric Moke to a VTEC powered Classic, to Randy Steven's tricked out CVT to Robert Holt’s Purple Haze convertible to three full on Mini race cars: my sprint car, Jacques Andres' enduro car and Eric and Colin Herricks's rally car, and many in between.

by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
My Mini has a new setup for this race. Speed parts from my sponsor Mini Mania have been added by my sponsor Bay Bridge Motors and USTCC sponsor Nitto has provided four brand new NT 01 tires. This will be my first official race with the US Touring Car Championship and I look forward to hitting the grid with more horsepower and quicker lap times.

MINI Clubman Review

Published: 21st April 2008
The new MINI was launched in 2001, to much acclaim. Although bigger than the original Mini, what it lacked in rear legroom, it made up for in unusual styling and a vast array of personalisation elements, much loved by a local estate agent.

The MINI Clubman has the same raft of options but its main benefit is the extra length, which should make rear passengers happier.

>>After crossing Golden Gate Bridge take Geary Blvd. to Great Hwy. (on coast) to Skyline Blvd. to Hwy. 1<<

if you want a slightly less city-oriented route (Geary and Great Highway are stoplights and tourists, in that order) you might want to consider going across Golden Gate Park (easy to follow signs at GG Bridge) to 25th, then onto 19th Ave which will drop you onto I-280 from which you can exit to Hwy 1 to Pacifica, and take the coast road south from there. Much faster way to get to Hwy 1, and you avoid the city entirely - 19th ave is about six lanes wide and the lights are timed. once on Hwy 1 south from Pacifica, stop at the Davenport Store for lunch. it's one of half a dozen buildings by the side of the road, and a much better place to stop than Santa Cruz. Then, once you're south of Carmel, be sure to stop at Nepenthe for a drink of something at the outdoor bar that overlooks the ocean. you won't regret that stop! And gas up before you leave Carmel area. Gas at Big Sur is over $5/gal.

see you in the OC

Take the 405 south just north of LA all the way to OC.

If you have time you may wish to take Highway 1 all the way down the coast from Big Sur to San Luis Obispo. From there to Oxnard Highway 1 and 101 are pretty muc the same exept for some small detours that 1 makes.

For a route bypassing most of the traffic in SF, but there will always be some traffic:

Hi Mike,

After crossing Golden Gate Bridge take Geary Blvd. to Great Hwy. (on coast) to Skyline Blvd. to Hwy. 1 and on down through Monterey - popping out to Carmel where the Moke would be a big hit - to Big Sur to Hwy. 101 and get off 101 for Hwy 1 at Oxnard and go down the coast on Hwy. 1 routing past LAX etc. to Costa Mesa and "turn left" for John Wayne Airport at Newport Beach and Irvine Marriott.

We'll be inland on Hwy. 99, coming down from Sacramento, then over to Hwy. 5 and the Tejon Pass and onto 405 etc. to MacArthur Blvd., John Wayne Airport and Irvine Marriott.

We are planning our drive from Victoria BC to MMW, and planning to take 101 and highway 1 down the coast most of the way. Any suggestions on the best way to go through San Francisco on the way down? We will overnight just on the north side and head out early in the morning. So far it looks like at least 4 Minis are part of the trip.

Same question in getting through LA to Irvine for the show..any 'best routes' or will we be stuck in traffic any way we go?  We are trying to stay off the intersates if possible..

Thanks in advance..
