Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
What can transform a peaceful sylvan lawn in Gold Country into a carnival overnight? The annual Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party of course! Those who were there got to see first hand all the eye candy, but for those who were not, the Mini's ranged from an electric Moke to a VTEC powered Classic, to Randy Steven's tricked out CVT to Robert Holt’s Purple Haze convertible to three full on Mini race cars: my sprint car, Jacques Andres' enduro car and Eric and Colin Herricks's rally car, and many in between.

Race Report -USTCC

by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
My Mini has a new setup for this race. Speed parts from my sponsor Mini Mania have been added by my sponsor Bay Bridge Motors and USTCC sponsor Nitto has provided four brand new NT 01 tires. This will be my first official race with the US Touring Car Championship and I look forward to hitting the grid with more horsepower and quicker lap times.

MINI Clubman Review

Published: 21st April 2008
The new MINI was launched in 2001, to much acclaim. Although bigger than the original Mini, what it lacked in rear legroom, it made up for in unusual styling and a vast array of personalisation elements, much loved by a local estate agent.

The MINI Clubman has the same raft of options but its main benefit is the extra length, which should make rear passengers happier.

Ditto Scargo's post. I tore the remote housing down, cleaned/lubed it and replaced the plunger and spring. You wouldn't believe how it tightened up the shifter linkage.  I reused the nylon cup as it looked in great shape.  dan

While you're rummaging around in there, you may also want to replace part #'s 17&18 (anti-rattle plunger & spring). My shifter buzzed on over-run until I changed those parts along with the nylon cup already mentioned.

Cup Cake is spot on......... I installed one of them a few months back and it vastly improved the whole shifter mechanism, also got rid of the nasty vibration noise. Highly recommended item.

DL has it right. There is a bullet shaped fitting that fits in a socket in the linkage in which the end of the shifter fits, early it is metal, later it is plastic. This is what vibrates. Wrap a layer of aluminum from soda or beer can around this fitting including the tappered end and Bob's (notBOBB, you wouldn't want that .... ha...ha) Your Uncle. Holding the shifter or resting your knee against it is not a good idea because it applies pressure on the shift fork causing premature wear.

I tried all sorts of things to stop this on the Elf, and my Dad had tried all sorts of stuff on my Mum's Mk3 years before...

In the end, the solution was simple.
Fit an alloy gear knob - it damps out the rattle.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

You can buy a replacement " cup" that the shifter ball sits into, from a a major mini parts supplyer in the states. I just did it, along with some parts from Scargo. The original cup, and the replacement cup were pretty much shot, but the new one did the trick. I had serious "sizzle" and now have none.  THe part number for the cup is:

Canned beer?!!?  Dave, we gotta come up with something better than that!  Friends don't let friends drink beer from a can!

Craig - with nothing constructive to say.

I believe Steve Gibbs (CTR) had the fix for this but I can't remember the details.  From memory, it involved using a formed shim cup made from pieces cut from a discarded beer can.

I'm sure someone with a better memory than me will post the specifics soon.

I've got some slight up and down (1-3 milimiter) motion in the shift lever of my Remote style shifter. It vibrates while at speed and is extremely annoying. I know this is a common problem, and many of the nylon internal components are no longer availible. My car still retains all of the original components of the shifter and linkage, and so far, I've temporarily fixed it by using liberal amounts of wheel bearing grease, however, with use, the noise (vibration) is starting to come back. Has anyone else experienced this, and what have you done to sole and prevent it from coming back?
