Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
What can transform a peaceful sylvan lawn in Gold Country into a carnival overnight? The annual Mini Mania Open House and Lawn Party of course! Those who were there got to see first hand all the eye candy, but for those who were not, the Mini's ranged from an electric Moke to a VTEC powered Classic, to Randy Steven's tricked out CVT to Robert Holt’s Purple Haze convertible to three full on Mini race cars: my sprint car, Jacques Andres' enduro car and Eric and Colin Herricks's rally car, and many in between.

Race Report -USTCC

Infineon Raceway, April 11, 2008.
by Jerry (Siddhartha) Bradbury
My Mini has a new setup for this race. Speed parts from my sponsor Mini Mania have been added by my sponsor Bay Bridge Motors and USTCC sponsor Nitto has provided four brand new NT 01 tires. This will be my first official race with the US Touring Car Championship and I look forward to hitting the grid with more horsepower and quicker lap times.

MINI Clubman Review

Published: 21st April 2008
The new MINI was launched in 2001, to much acclaim. Although bigger than the original Mini, what it lacked in rear legroom, it made up for in unusual styling and a vast array of personalisation elements, much loved by a local estate agent.

The MINI Clubman has the same raft of options but its main benefit is the extra length, which should make rear passengers happier.

This is the count I'm getting through the post. If you are on the list and aren't coming, please post. If you aren't on the list and are coming, same deal.

macmanron, scargo, porsh911t, wcelliot, captain61, rayman1946, wray, jimarnett. At this point it looks like two of the posters will not have their Minis there. Way off from the 25 needed for a tent.

Howard, We parked right at the fairgrounds last year, I assume we will do the same this year. I didn't think it was too loud last year that I remember. It seemed like everone stayed cool. I am planning on bringing the mini if it is done.

Ron...where are you and your Dad planning to camp? Although I still have a room reservation at the Hotel Carlisle, I'm also considering tent camping, at least on Friday and Saturday, and maybe Sunday and Monday during the Jubilee. At $15 for three days, camping at the fairgrounds appears to be extremely reasonable for attendees who have a three day event pass. I'm just not sure about the ambience of the on-site campground. If you've camped there in the past, what's your take on the place? As an alternative, I'm currently in process of checking out some of the local campgrounds.

I'm planning to get to the Hotel Carlisle mid-day Friday and will head over to the fairgrounds that afternoon. I'll be in an OE White Bugeye and will be parked in the Spridget coral on the show field. I'll spend Friday afternoon & evening, and all day Saturday at the Import Show, followed immediately by the Sprite Jubilee, which runs until the closing banquet on Tuesday night. Email me if you'd like to exchange cell numbers.

We are still planning on going up to the show etc. I don't know if I will be able to bring the mini or not? I am trying to get it finished, but don't want to rush it, and mess something up.  I still want to get together with anyone who comes up to the show. CLoser to the date I will post my cell # and give you an idea who to look for. Keep this topic going.  Thanks, Ron J.

I'll be there. Not sure which day yet.

Maybe we can get a caravan together from the DC Mini Club(s)?

Don't be too impressed. My avatar picture was taken on a 'good' day, and improved with Photoshop.

My wife has made reservations for us in Carlisle and we hope to be there for the Sprites and Kit Cars. I hope to drive the Traveler all the way from Huntsville, AL. Mini Tec still has to finish the Traveler and I hope to have it long enough to sort out and see what kind of road car it turns out to be. I recently bought a 1959 Bugeye and will be looking for ideas, information, parts, etc. The Bugeye was a local car that has been sitting in the original owners garage since the mid 90s and is about as rust free as you can find one of these cars without paying way too much. I recently bought an early production 1967 Mk4 A-H Sprite parts car for the 1275, disc brakes, etc.

I hope the Traveler makes a good daily driver and parts hauler. I don't know how much stuff I will have left over from the Traveler, but it will be about time to start cleaning out the garage if the stuff can't be used on the Bugeye.

I am looking forward to the Kit Car show too. They can be a lot of fun just like Little British Cars. A few years ago I had a Vintage 550A Spyder and currently have an original Meyers Manix SR from about 1970 that has never been finished.

Cheers,

Wray

I'd like to try and find out if any of you from the message board who are planning to attend the Carlisle Import & Kit Car Nationals and/or the Sprite Jubilee would like to share a room at the host hotel. I've made a five night hotel reservation at the Hotel Carlisle, which is the Jubilee's host hotel, and I could use a room mate to help defray some of the cost.

Well, I was thinking if we get enough response, and quite a few people together we will have to have something to commemerate the occasion. I was thinking of a Minis at Carlisle t-shirt. I will discuss this more as we get closer to the show. Any intrest?

Count me in! Sounds like fun! I am about 3 1/2 hours away. I have been to the event before...without the mini. But I would be great if minis could "invade" the event!!!
