Rick- Boy how time flys-2000 sounds like a long time ago- The pic brings back memories-The yellow 1961 morris 848cc mini was the same one l sold later that year to BMW N/A for advertising the pre launch of the new BINI/MINI- And the Mini Mover now resides in the Catskill Mountains of New York State, waiting for work- BIG AL-

This update just in from Faith Lamprey of NEMO: ...."No one has booked any of the economy rooms that were a few miles away so we opted to increase the size of our block of rooms in the main hotel".... As she requested, the verbiage in the original posting on this thread has been edited to reflect this change, thereby deleting the sentence about the economy rooms being available a few miles away.
Also, NEMO conducted a site visit last weekend and are almost ready to release the registration form. The goal is to have it done by the end of the year.

Hi BIG AL, Yes "yellow"...the Mini Mover at MME 2000 at Hotel Cheriburg...though we didn't meet then.
And, a Mini trailer that year too...beautiful work! Going to Mini Meets can be motivational...you never know what the results will be years later! Here in Oklahoma, enroute to MME 2006. Rick/Hunter2

And as the story goes, Milnes' young son Christopher, could not pronounce "Winnipeg" so it came out as "Winnie the Pooh" or as l am told- Rick- I remember the brown Pooh at the first Magog MMEast- What a difference a little yellow paint can do to a Canadian spec mini !!!! BIG AL

Ah yes BIG AL, Hwy. 17 is the Trans Canada Hwy. through the Lakehead and over to the Ottawa Valley etc. I keep forgetting that Hwy. 1 (Trans Canada Hwy.) extends only from Victoria, B.C. to Winnipeg where it morphs into a series of other numbers and routings before emerging as Hwy. 2 in New Brunswick and regaining its Hwy. 1 designation in PEI and Newfoundland. The simplicity of nationhood.... Our first Mini trip "over" the Great Lakes on Hwy. 17 saw us pull into White River totally unaware it was the locale where the 'Winnie-ther-Pooh' story had its beginnings in WWI. One little Black Bear sow cub off to war as a regimental mascot for the lads from Winnipeg - thus "Winnie" - and left in the care of the London Zoo where Milne took his son Christopher.... The rest is a multi-billion dollar commercial legacy in the hands of Disney.
Disney's contribution to municipal architecture in White River...
And our connection arose simply because the wife said the little Russet Brown Mini needed a bear! Hunter2

Only about 6 hours away from Ottawa. And I won't miss Canada Day for the first time in years. Should have the 1460cc monster purring without dashboard fires by then. Everyone's doing their best, scary ain't it!

"Inappropriate behavior and excessive noise" are frowned upon. This won't be a traditional Mini Meet then.

Rick-3,500 miles one way ? You are a better/younger man than me to attempt that one- I should point out that l believe you mean HWY # 17 from Saulte Ste Marie to Sudbury(Nickel Capital Of The World) on to Ottawa rather than HWY # 1- In any event a real challenge- Now that our Federal government has just lowered the GST (Get Screwed Tax) by another one percent, l think, l can save enough now to attend- I calculate my run to be a measly 600 miles, a days drive- I encourage every mini owner to try and attend, just a great event- BIG AL-

Well BIG AL, the wife, aka "the little lady who rides in Minis", is talking up the cross continent trip to Maine. Seems she'll be first in line for holiday selection too! CH hasn't responded to the Portland to Portland suggestion but I've looked at US Hwy. 2 from Washington to Sault Ste. Marie, then Hwy 1 through Ottawa, Montreal and down to Maine via Magog (in Canada) and back into USA in Vermont eroute to South Bethel. 3,500 miles or so one way. We'd cover lots of roads not yet seen heading east through the USA (like Going-to-the-Sun Road through Logan Pass in Glacier National Park) and do the Yellowhead route from Manitoba west to home - also untraversed by us in a Mini - in Canada. My anguish is because of a dear friend in California who might only be able to do MMW (the two meets are too close together for anyone by airline travellers to attend). Fortunately, 2009 allows one shot only...to Winona, Minnesota for the 50th Celebrations. Hunter2

Hi All; I had to enroll to respond to this thread... I was part of the "advance party" to view the facility, the area, and discuss the possibilities for MME'08 being held there. In addition, I've stay at these facilities numerous times in the past few years(no I'm not even close to being a skier) for work conferences and also hosted a MMSCC event there last year. On all ocassions I've found the facilities, the staff, the food, and the area to be 1st rate. While the recent sale of the complex might have put more $$ into the place, my experience over the past 4 years does not correspond to any negative reviews. I'd seriously question the sources and/or circumstances of any negative reviews. I can tell you that inappropriate behavior or unwarranted excessive noise will result in a visit for the facility security staff. This is as it should be. That said.... I'm quite certain anyone who can make it to this next MME'08 will find it to be a worthwhile event. The rallye route promises to be very pleasant, the local area is very much upper New England in flavor, and the driving scenery is spectacular. Bethel is about the highest coincentration of quality restaurants as I've ever seen in a town that size, with two highly rated golf courses, too; plus one very traditional British Pub right on the main road. And there's lots to do and see in the surrounding area, for side activities. Hope to see you all there. Bud Hall, NEMO, MMSCC, Augusta, Maine

Just had a long telephone conversation from Ron-He assures me, everything is fine and 100% with the resort- It apparently was taken over by a Colorado based Company and they have poured millions into it- I can count on Ron, he is a business man and knows what he is talking about- So allay your fears and be in me. in 08- BIG AL-

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g40769-d247607-Reviews-Jordan_Grand_Resort_Hotel_and_Conference_Center-Newry_Maine.html Shows 7 reviews. Two of them are a "5" (which puts the average up), but the rest are BAD ! (5+5+3+1+4+3+2=23/7= average is 3.286/5 Stories of $895 phone bills, lines of cars being towed away w/o notice....etc. etc. I am not exactly sure what to believe as some call it the Jordan Grand Summit, Some Jordan Grand REsort.........there very well may be 2 or even 3 hotels with similar names, but so far, they both (all?) seem to have horror stories. Anyone clarify? ~ 30 minutes in a Mini is more therapeutic than 3 sessions @ the shrink. ~ Mike NB, Canada

The Hotel with the SCARY reviews is the GRAND SUMMIT NOT THE JORDAN. They are not the same resort they are located near each other in Bethel Maine. try www.tripadvisor.com but Key in Jordan Bethel Maine. You'll find that the overall rating is a 4/5. Keith & Deb Avatar:Turn 1 at the Glen

I'm gonna be there. I don't care how bad the host hotel is. Hey SCUM, remember the fiasco at the hotel in Squaw Valley back in 87? We had a great hotel, but the host hotel had problems for sure. Word to the wise...never let someone who has a bad room go check out your GREAT accomodations!

I was really looking fwd to going, but after reading the reviews, it looks like a pretty scary place !!! Is there anyone in Maine that can go do a reconn trip or any board members that have actually been there? ~ 30 minutes in a Mini is more therapeutic than 3 sessions @ the shrink. ~ Mike NB, Canada

Hey Chuck, Let's drive to Maine going Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine - ocean to ocean! Well Portland, Ore. is 100 miles inland but...can't have everything. If Elaine and I go across the US, we'd come home to Portage la Prairie then take the northern/yellowhead route to Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper and home. Rick PS - would like to meet BIG AL!
