Firstly, I'd like to say that I empathize with Aaron as one who tried to be accommodating and got screwed anyway. Having said that, I think that some of Aaron's problems are of his own making because he made a number of bad decisions. The important thing here is for a lesson to be learned by anyone needing such a lesson. 1) don't trust anyone except close and accessible friends for deals of any significance. 2) ALL terms, such as tire specs, for any exchange or sale should be specified and agreed upon beforehand, not after the exchange has started. 3) Any part claimed to be "Magged OK" should be tested by the receiver(not the seller) preferably before, but certainly not long after, the trade has commenced. One and one half years is way too long to wait for a mag test. 4) Anyone who knowingly falsifies information or appearance of parts should be roundly condemned as this really crosses the line. 5) The accused should be allowed to his/her side of the story before any weapons are brought to hand.

well Guy's. Seems we have found an unscrupulous dealer of mini parts and i hope to be able to keep up on reminding people of this deal everytime i see a post by smurf. Two people offline have confirmed deals gone bad by either over representing condition of parts or by curbing unsatisfactory cars. As far as the amount of time elapsed it did work in his favor but i highly suspect the answer would have been the same even if i had found the crack right when i got the crank. as far as having it magnafluxed i now really doubt it. The size of the crack would not have been missed I had not thought about it but it was hand written on a wire tag. The location of the crack is common place to break on a raced crank. This leads me to believe this was a raced crank and the plugged oil holes and mystery coating also confirm this. The way i see it this junk crank cost me five cooper S rims one extra rim five ao32 tires and a second cooper S crank which i was lucky to have. Smurf, mnidvr Lance is still trying to deflect the whole issue any way he can. There is something he could do, he could send me MY wheels and tires. I doubt he would do that.... but the fact remains give him money or parts and you will be taking a chance. Thanks for the input Guys. Settle down Bobb we are not going to get anywhere with this guy. http://community.webshots.com/user/66mg1100

Ditto. I have known him on the board and met him once in NoCal at MiniMotors open house and we have talked on the phone once or twice. He doesn't impress me as someone who would wish to get one over someone. At least not in the Mini community, IMHO. Excrement happen. I know of a few people tha trefuse to sell on MiniMania for the same reason. ------------------ QuickSilversVille

Maybe in order to post at all, a person should be obliged to fill in their profile as no one is obliged to become a member of the forum. Name calling and BS isn't at all helpful. Since I know BOBB reasonably well, if he dropped a crank (ouch) he'd say so. His check of the crank before machining is always the first step...even if it was allegedly tested before. Went through the same process with a head myself. When we are disposing of extra parts to members of the board, we all need to take the high road and fairly describe new and used parts to the best of our knowledge. And, all used items should be fit for use or for limited use as spares.

KRA - Your 'friend' wouldn't happen to be called Nick would he?
I try to keep all my emails and this is the only one I can find referencing shocks (which happened to be 2003 - five years ago incidentally). I also have the final email where I was informed the items had been recieved, although buyer was disapointed as he assumed he was getting four, not two because he read the advert wrong (25quid for 'barely-used' GAZ shocks plus 10 quid shipping).
Not a lot I can do about not being able to read - the price was also a good clue given a set of GaZ at the time were over 200quids.
You have my email address - it's in my profile. I am still none the wiser re anything else.

Hey guys, personal attacks aren't needed here. Take it off line and be honorable about it. Aaron, you did the right thing to replace what wasn't usable. You did make the mistake of taking one's word of honor on something that perhaps you should have been more cautious about given the limited knowledge/contact with the individual. You are a person of who gives his word and can be counted on. There's a lot of honorable people on this board, but as such, can be taken to the cleaners by accepting someone elses word too. Just a risk you have to take but you can minimize the risk by taking it to the next level with "untested" individuals. An email specifying the details of the deal would have minimized much of the uncertainty and of course verifying the quality after receipt (especially a high $$ item as such) a must. I hope this doesn't sound too harsh, I probably would have done the same thing and been pissed too. Monday morning quarterbacking by a non-participant is an easy thing to do. It is good to know the more "twitchy" traders/sellers/buyers on the board. It might just keep the rest of us honest. dan

Well KRA - I'm confused.
I don't know what parts these are? Perhaps you (or your friend) can remind me? You seem to know a lot about it (and it is clearly still of contention to the invidual given the 'high pedastal' you reference), but I have clearly forgotten what it is.
I've certainly not heard anything in the past years to remind me of it either. I do know that I don't rip folks off, and have a lot of deals. 250+ 100% positive feedback on ebay isn't achieved through ripping folks off either... If I've dropped the ball, well I apologise. But If i don't know the ball has been dropped, I'm a little unsure how I can make any ammends.
Let us know!
ps - I did try sending you an email, but *****N/A***** came up as an invalid email address for some reason??? Perhaps you might like to fill in your own profile?

Oh, I don't know. Placing Turbo Dave on such a high pedestal might be a mistake - high pedestals hurt when you fall from them. I know someone who paid TD for some suspension stuff some 5 years ago and is still waiting for the parts. I don't remember what, shocks maybe?

I would agree with Spank as well. SpeedPilot; grow a pair and do the right thing. Cowards and crooks don't get far in this tight knit community. An example of how things should be handled: I bought a 3:1 crown wheel and pinion a year ago from a board member. I noticed a small chip in one of the gear teeth, and even though the crown wheel looked much better than the 3.44 I was replacing, I had some concerns that there may be a small crack in it. I posted a question here about what I should do without naming the seller, and included photos of the chip - which was small enough to honestly be missed. The board member I bought it from replied 2 or 3 posts down, saying that they had missed that chip and offered to give me my money back or pay for a magnaflux job - which they did. The part turned out to be fine, and I greatly appreciated the seller's honesty and the effort they took to fix any issues. Turbo Dave is a stand up guy, and an example of the kind of person who makes the Mini community worth being a part of. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. "I drive a Mini. What are you compensating for?"

IN THIS CORNER, WEIGHING IN AT 45 LBS OF PURE CRANKING POWER . . .
I suspect this could get ugly. Once someone has shown their LACK of integrity, and another has shown his PROOF of integrity, a happy result is rarely found.
What's fair? Nothing, it's been too long. What's RIGHT? For both parties to be happy with the result. Revenge won't make you happy, but for all of us to not deal with said poor seller is a close second place.

Well Bobb I express my opinion that a year and a half later I think its a done deal and you say because of my profile I must be a buddy of the seller. Well I suspect maybe your the one who dropped it.

Speed pilot , I suspect that by your profile you are likely the seller or a buddy of the seller. The seller (minidrivr) was quick to erase his profile after he received an email from 661100 re the poor condition of the junk crank. The only reason I re tested the crank for cracks is that it needed a regrind and as the builder I dont spend money on machining cranks unless I know the condition of the part. I might also add that the tag was suspect as it was a very generic tag saying "magged ok"; no shop name ,date or anything else . Be a man Lance Brown stand behind the parts that you sell on this forum, there is no room for shysters here. BOBB

I to have had a crank test out to be fine only to recheck a few years later and it had a big crack in it.The first shop to check it was crap and they took me. Only glad I did not use the thing.I have had a hard time getting others to pay the shipping when buying parts from me.I even offered to pay half the price and got stuck with the whole bill.Cheers
