New Mini collects its first pot

Auto Express magazine named it the New Car of The Year at the awards at Claridges Hotel, London yesterday.

David Johns, editor in Chief at Auto Express, said it had impressed them with its attention to detail, love for life and amazing value. "It borrows themes from the past and mixes them with state-of-the-art technology. The MINI is a car that reminds you why you fell in love with driving in the first place and, as in 1959, the rest of the industry has suddenly found itself playing catch-up."

Trevor Houghton-Berry, general manager for Mini, praised production workers at Cowley. "From chassis through to the paint finish this car sets new standards. It's certainly going to be hard to blow the bloody doors off this one."
