BIRMINGHAM, Mich. â€” Mini plans to launch an all-electric car on American roads in limited numbers by next summer, and the fast-growing BMW-owned brand is aiming for an overall lineup of as many as six vehicles - double the number of its current offerings.

Need more proof that Americans are embracing small, fuel-efficient cars? Supplies of the 2008 Mini Cooper and 2008 Mini Cooper S in North America are on the edge of depletion. Mini sales in the U.S. have risen 33.6 percent in the first half of 2008, and the figures from June don't discount that trend. 5211 cars were sold in June, a 24.8 percent increase over June 2007.

The U.S. car market may be moving toward Miniâ€™s kind of small, fashionable and fuel-efficient vehicles, and the British brand will be ready as it prepares to launch its first electric vehicles here in 2009 and a small crossover utility vehicle not long after.

Mini also would like to offer a diesel engine if it can develop one that gets at least 50 m.p.g. on the highway in EPA tests and meets strict emissions standards in California and northeast states, Jim McDowell, vice president of Mini USA, said.

NGK PLUGS & SOCKET FOR PULLEY UPGRADE - MINI COOPER S

This special kit includes 4 replacement spark plugs and a special 5" deep socket to make installation simple and painless. The NGK plugs are rated a step cooler than stock in the MINI Cooper S . The tapered ground electrode of the spark plug increases flame kernel expansion, while the superior heat range design is ideally suited to the demands of high performance MINI Cooper S with the pulley upgrade. Spark plugs come pre-gapped, but should be checked for .035" gap before installation. Sold individually.

Use this six point 5/8" deep well spark plug socket to reach the spark plugs on your BMW MINI Cooper & S.

3/8" drive, 5" long, and equipped with the expected rubber insert.

This tool will also work on cars with high performance camshafts where the spark plug tubes have been properly "clearanced" to eliminate lobe peak interference.

Note: Socket may be chrome OR black finish depending on supply.

NGK Iridium IX high performance spark plugs with a .6mm iridium center electrode for superior ignitability without sacrificing durability.
NGK Multi-Ground - Replacement spark plugs for the MINI Cooper S with the pulley upgrade, set of four. 'Cooler' temperature rating than stock. 14mm, 3/4" reach, 2 ground electrodes.
