High quality performance brake rotors are now available for MINI's!!
RacingBrake performance rotors are built from quality tooling and materials, not machined blanks like most of the competition. Metallurgy, machining, and balance specifications are tightly controlled to get the most out of your stock MINI brake system.
These rotors are not just made to fit, like aftermarket replacements, nor like some of our competition that buy ‘off the shelf’ stock rotors and drill or slot merely to meet the “performance” look.
These performance rotors are made from the ground up. First comes design a CMM is used for precise measurement, then 3D computer modeling is used for design with improvements to make up the shortfalls of OE design and for performance enhancement. Following examples are proof of our superiority to OE or competition.
These rotors are made of material upgraded from the OE standard of SAE J431 Class G3000 (30,000 psi in tensile strength, 187-241 in Brinell hardness). More important is RacingBrakes know-how and experience over decades in cast iron metallurgy. All rotors may appear the same but under a microscope there is a world of difference in metallurgical structure, which per ASTM A-247 the type (shape) of graphite shall be VII or flake graphite with “A” type uniform distribution and random orientation, and graphite size.
All RacingBrake rotors are machined by advanced CNC to a general tolerance of ±.004” and ± .002” for critical dimensions such as parallelism, thickness variation and indicator runout. Tolerances are listed in figures instead of just “tightest in the industry” like the competition. These tight tolerances are RacingBrakes best assurance of fitment, easy break in and demanding brake performance without pulsation or vibration.
Rotor is subject to rust and most rotors are not protected against corrosion in early years, it’s not uncommon to see a rusty rotor in a car dealer’s brand new show car. When RacingBrakes started the performance line about four years ago, they tried and experimented various surface coatings, and found EDP (Electro-Deposition Paint) gives optimal result in durability and cost.
Not only does EDP provide lasting protection against corrosion (about 500 hours salt spray test, vs. common bright zinc plating of 100 hours), it has appearing black look, more importantly it’s environmentally friendly unlike the competition using cadmium or gold zinc plating this metal coating process uses hexavalant chromium.
MINI recommends the brake fluid be replaced every 2 years. See ATE Super Blue for replacement brake fluid. ATE Super Blue is a high quality performance fluid that will last much longer than the standard DOT4 fluid. This is an ABS friendly fluid.
When combined with quality brake pads, you can expect better pedal response, less brake fade, and increased braking performance. Great for auto crossing and other uses where track day pad changes are undesirable.
